What’s Happening Phoenix?
A WHP reminder that this Black Friday weekend, we should all think ‘outside the big box’ and shop locally, and support small local businesses.
Everyone -- yes NEARLY EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local hair salon, or barber?
🏋️♀️ Gym or yoga club or private instruction membership? It's appropriate for anyone who is thinking about health improvement.
🚙 Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed or washed? Small, detail shops, and local car washes, would love to sell you a gift certificate, or a book of gift certificates.
⛳️ Are you one of those extravagant givers who thinks nothing of plunking down thousands on a flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like their driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or rounds at the local golf course.
🍽 There are tons of owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half-dozen breakfasts, bagels, donuts at the local breakfast joint, bakery, or coffeehouse?
Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town folks with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open, feed their kids, and build communities.
🚴🏾♀️ How many people couldn't use an oil change or tune-up for their car, bike, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by your ’neighbor’? Stop by the neighborhood bike shop and buy a gift certificate. Make a friend.
🧖Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day. Or even a local masseuse, or Pilates, or a facial and waxing.
🎨 OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful custom pieces. Many are available, reasonabley, at your nearest farmers market. .
🎸 Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local acts run by local people. Buy a gift cert, shirt or a cd.
❤️ Remember the gift of donating money, time, or supplies to a local charity!
You see, the holidays are no longer about draining our pockets and seeing our hard-earned wages go to people who could care less in exchange for mass produced overseas garbage. . The holidays are about caring about US and encouraging American small business owners to keep plugging away, keep their heads up, keep innovating, creating, producing, building; and to follow their dreams.
At the end of the day, when we take care of small businesses, we take care of our communities.... because the benefits come back to us all in ways we couldn't even imagine.
And always important; TIP people for great service!!
