Stafford Nonprofit Consulting Strategic Media for Nonprofit Communication & Fundraising: Omnichannel Systems for Donor Development

Ever wonder why the organization down the street always pops up first in local search results? It's probably not their fancy website. It's something far more fundamental: NAP Consistency.

Name. Address. Phone Number.

If this core data is inconsistent across the 70+ online directories that exist, search engines lose trust and push you down in the rankings. The result? The people you want to serve can't find you.

Itโ€™s the un-sexy, foundational work that makes all your other marketing efforts actually work. We wrote a guide on how to fix it in 15 minutes, not 40 hours.

I was in a board meeting, armed with enough data to save a nonprofit I cared deeply about. But I made a critical error: I couldn't translate my data into a clear story. I tried to explain the numbers, but without a visual guide, the message fell flat.

I learned a tough lesson that day: A simple picture (or chart!) truly is worth a thousand wordsโ€”or in my case, a thousand spreadsheet cells. Itโ€™s the key to turning data into decisions.

Have you ever had a moment where the right visual could have changed everything? Share your story below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Ever feel like your churchโ€™s communication budget is a black hole? ๐Ÿ’ธ I get it. I once told my pastor I was his publicist... and it did NOT go over well. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

That single, awkward conversation kicked off a journey to discover what actually works when it comes to sharing the Gospel in the digital age.

Spoiler alert: Itโ€™s not about becoming a slick marketer. Itโ€™s about stewarding the message well. Most of what churches do is wasted effort, but a handful of things work incredibly well.

Ready to find out what they are? Tap the link in our bio for the full story!

Let's be honest. As a church or non-profit leader, your to-do list is a mile long. The last thing you're worried about is whether your closing time is listed correctly on "Bob's Business Finder" dot com.

But here's the rub: Google is worried about it.

When your name, address, and phone number are even slightly different across the web, Google's confidence in you drops. And a confused Google doesn't send new families your way.

This isn't just a "tech thing." Itโ€™s a "people can't find you" thing. We break down the surprisingly simple fix in our latest article.

Many of us in ministry cringe at words like "marketing" or "promotions." Our job is to promote Jesus, not ourselves, right? Absolutely. But what if our approach to communication is unintentionally hindering our ability to reach the very people God has called us to?

After two decades at the intersection of ministry and media, Iโ€™ve learned a hard truth: about 80% of what churches spend on promotions is a waste of Godโ€™s resources.

In my latest article, Iโ€™m sharing the story that started it all and breaking down the powerful 20% of communication efforts that actually move the needle for the Kingdom. Itโ€™s time we became better stewards of our message.

I'm looking for referrals right now in the non-profit sector. Specifically, I'm looking to connect with non-profit organizations who are buried and need help with social, web, Google grant, mailing, video, podcasts and so on. I'd appreciate it if any referrals came to mind.

A few years ago, I hit a wall. We were working harder than ever, doing all the things that had made us successful for decades, but our growth was stalling. Worse, we were losing the next generation of customers. It felt like we were quietly, slowly, going out of style. It was a total gut punch.

My first instinct was to double downโ€”to do more of what had always worked. But that just made the problem worse.

The tough realization was this: My 30 years of experience, my greatest asset, had secretly become my biggest blind spot. I was leading a business perfectly designed to reach a generation that was no longer our primary growth market.

The communication gap was massive. I was broadcasting our message on AM radio, and our target audience was on TikTok. I was talking about personal responsibility and climbing the ladder, while they were focused on authenticity, social impact, and dismantling broken systems. Same language, different universe.

My playbook had to change. Hereโ€™s the ridiculously simple (but not easy) process I used to turn things around: https://staffordnonprofit.com/is-your-ministry-experience-making-you-obsolete/

I once walked into a boardroom armed with the perfect spreadsheet, ready to save a great organization from a slow financial death.

And I completely blew it.

I watched the dreaded "spreadsheet glaze" wash over the room. You know the lookโ€”polite nods, distant eyes, and zero urgency. My data was screaming, but their brains had already checked out.

My mistake? I brought them a spreadsheet, but they needed a story. A simple picture. A kindergarten-level chart would have conveyed the looming crisis in 5 seconds flat.

The lesson cost that non-profit precious time, but it's yours for free: Data doesn't speak for itself. It needs a translator. Before your next big meeting, ask yourself: Am I showing them a spreadsheet, or am I showing them the story?

Read the full cautionary tale on the blog. Itโ€™s a mistake youโ€™ll want to read about, not make yourself.

Ever feel like youโ€™re just throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks?

Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt.

In our latest blog post, I get personal and break down the simple 5-step framework I used to stop guessing and start leading with actual data. Whether you're tracking new customers, online engagement, or team productivity, this process works.

Read the post to see how we did it (and how you can too).

Ever been in a meeting where a brilliant, money-making idea gets shot down because of a "tight budget"?

We've all been there. It's the classic "we can't afford to spend money to make money" paradox.

We recently designed a complete, self-funding marketing engine for a local Chamber of Commerce that was struggling. The plan used cooperative mailers where larger members could fund the project, giving smaller businesses a powerful marketing tool for next to nothing.

It was a win-win-win.

The result? The plan is likely sitting in a drawer. They chose the perceived safety of holding onto cash over investing in an engine for growth.

Hereโ€™s the hard truth weโ€™ve learned from working with hundreds of businesses: Playing it safe is often the riskiest move of all.

Survival mode is not a growth strategy. The real risk isn't trying something new; it's getting left behind because you were too afraid to invest in your own success.

Sound familiar? Here's an article we wrote about it: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/self-funding-marketing-plan-almost-saved-q5rqc

We've all been in that meeting. The one where a game-changing plan is laid out, everyone nods in agreement, and then it gets quietly shelved because "it's not in the budget.
