Why Ad Fatigue Is The REAL Pandemic

Social media is awesome in a lot of ways. Easy access to our target market, great potential to go viral, and it’s never been easier to get in front of the perfect prospect for our business.

But…

…Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutt…

…there are downsides.

First and foremost - attention span. We all know the TikTok brain phenomenon that’s going on in real time. Kids unable to watch movies, concentrate on homework, or even watch a video that’s more than 90 seconds.

I wish that didn’t affect us but it really does. All of our clients have reduced attention span. Not because they want to. Because they NEED to.

How else are you going to deal with ads machine gun firing at you 24/7/365? It’s impossible!

So how do we fix this?

Don’t worry, I won’t ask you to do any TikTok dancing.

Why You Should Always Be Thinking About New Ads?

“Heyyyyyy, what’s new with you!?”

Pretty common way to greet someone when you haven’t seen them for a while.

Notice that we don’t ask:

“Hey, what’s old?”

or

“Hey, tell me what I already know”.

We ask what’s NEW. Because ‘NEW’ is exciting! And that’s exactly why we as business owners can never rest on our laurels.

If you’ve paid a lot of money to a marketing agency, and are in the green by a wide margin, this isn’t an issue.

But often businesses who hire large agencies will barely break even, forking out huge sums of money for mediocre results.

Many large agencies have their systems so streamlined, that they can “mass produce” promotional content.

They hit copy and paste, change a few images and keywords, and hit send.

Plus, large agencies will often overcharge you, or leave you at the drop of a hat if it’s convenient for them.

If you want a good marketing agency, go with a smaller one. Smaller agencies rely on getting you good results.

They get paid for how much they help you, instead of an hourly wage (like a staff member of a large agency).

When writing an ad for your target audience, here are the three main points to address:

1. Their values, lifestyle, or struggles
In the headline/title of your ad, always speak directly to them and their situation.

You want to let your audience know IMMEDIATELY that you understand the pain points of a problem they’re having, or that you can make their lives so much better.

2. How you (specifically) will improve their lives
The second part of your ad is the body text, this is a great place to discuss why your product or service is unique and better than that of your competitors.

If you’re faster, have better service, or there’s any other advantage that your company has over your competitors, make sure to mention it clearly and concisely.

This will make your company stand out in your market.

3. Their Action
The final part of the ad should show them exactly what to do next. The easier the action, the more likely your audience is to participate.

Simply clicking on your ad is a good example.

How to Target the Right People to Maximise Your Ad Returns

If you own a makeup brand, and your customers are mostly women, you should get your advertising host (like Meta or Google) to just target women. Otherwise, you would waste 50% of your ad spend.

The type of people that currently buy from you are generally the people you want to keep selling to. It’s still possible to switch your audience, but this usually requires a complete rebrand.

If you’re not sure who your audience is, check out your reviews and your competitors’ reviews.

There’ll usually be a few things in common between all these people. You’ll easily be able to pick up how these people talk, what they value, their approximate age and their gender (if applicable).

"Make This Simple Change So You NEVER Waste Any Money On Your Ads"

Most ads run by small businesses fail before they’re even published… This isn’t because of bad writing, or a boring image/video, it actually goes much deeper than that.

Too many business owners think that everyone is their customer.

If you own a cafe, everyone can eat food… right? This is true, but it’s still no use advertising to children or toddlers, who can’t pay.

Your audience will always lean towards a certain gender, age, location or set of interests.

Ads succeed or fail based on who sees it, but most businesses take this the wrong way…

When you advertise to everyone, it’s called ‘mass marketing’, which is typically run on 7 figure budgets by companies like Coca-Cola or McDonalds.
