What does it take to start a flight team from scratch and compete on a national stage? For the California Aeronautical University Flight Team, it started with one determined staff member, a handful of students who believed in the idea, and a whole lot of early mornings.

We sat down with Melissa Johnston, Director of Aviation Operations at California Aeronautical University, along with flight team members Jackson Kaspar and Sebastian Bernal — and what they shared is going to inspire every young aviator who’s ever wondered whether joining the team is worth the extra effort.
