On the last Honor Flight, our group visited Fort McHenry. This was the place where the Star Spangled Banner was written; the place where the US defied the odds and won the Battle of Baltimore. Our group included a married couple who were both veterans that served during the Korean War. In fact, they met in the service and have been married over 60 years. This couple purchased a flag and had it raised at the fort. They later folded it together. As a photographer, the amount of symbols I saw in that act was striking but the thought that stood out the most to me was that the flag is a symbol of a promise and individual responsibility to our fellow man.
