Munk' and Snake Printing

My buddy is acting in 4 productions at the Genesius theatre in Reading this season, so we have been referring to this as 'The Summer of Tommy'... these shirts were designed and printed in tribute to that. I got to see the matinee of Kinky Boots today and was blown away. The show wraps tomorrow, but there are still 3 shows on their way you can check out! Cheers to Tommy and the entire cast and crew!!!

I've not been posting much lately because, honestly, it's been too damn hot to be in the studio printing and running a flash dryer. These were just a fun/goofy idea, but I'm hype with how they ended up turning out. It might be time to invest in some dehazer - just realized there is ghosting on that screen from a job I did 13 years ago! Also, that is one of the sloppier emulsion coating jobs I've done in a while... but perfection has never been what I aim for in my process. It works for me, and that's all that matters in the end.

I have a lot of designs I've been working on in the comfort of the air conditioning, so when things cool off a bit, there is a backlog of things I can't wait to run. For now though, I'm going to shower the glitter from the show off and eat some ice-cream. Sticks are unbelievable.

I've always been fascinated by historic medical illustrations - there is just something so beautiful about them. I have a few books slated for donation to , but not before I saved a few of the plates for myself. Well, it started as a few... but I got a little carried away and may have digitized over 200 images this afternoon! Some are simply too good not to be reborn in print form with my own twist on them. Excited to see where this leads me.

I've built up my studio over the years from all things hand-built, repurposed, recycled, or otherwise slated for the landfill. My latest addition is this shelving unit that was awaiting its sledgehammer execution/dumpster burial. I happened to be at the right place at the right time (in this case, the weekly meet-up of the Lancaster Juggling Club) to save it from demolition, and it looks like it was made for this space.

I've been quiet online lately, but rest assured that Munk & Snake is still VERY much alive and there are a lot of really exciting things going on behind the scenes. Thanks for sticking around and letting me excitedly share my trash-furniture glamor shots!!!

Shout out to my man, ... he totally sold out of his first round of iron-on patches! Go check out his page if you want to pick up one up from this re-stock and support a great performer (and, in turn, keep me in the printing business 😆). Figured while I was in printing mode, I'd run a few of my own designs. I really like how the little D20 merit badges look. Also, I pulled a few rope bunny shirts to see how I liked the design on fabric. All in all, a hell of a fun afternoon in the studio.

Sneak-peak of an idea I had that goes all the way back to my Philly days. Most of my studio time today was spent working on screens (reclaiming, coating, burning), but that's not exactly exciting. Getting these positives onto film, however... now I just need to try and be patient until the next round of emulsion dries!

I've never worked with jute/burlap before... It's definitely trickier to get a clean print on a surface this textured, but I'm pleased with how they are turning out.

I've had this in the hopper for a while now. 4 screen, 6 color is tricky, but I'm really happy with how these came out. Feels good to be back in the studio again.

The bunnies have taken over the kitchen!!! I printed the first edition of my 'Rope Bunny' carving tonight. Self-imposed quarantine has not been a fun start to the year, but at least it wasn't a total loss of time. Excited for these to dry, and to burn them onto a screen... I'll have shirts and original prints up for sale when my website finally goes live! Now that I'm starting to feel better, I'm hoping to get things fully up and running sometime this week.

Starting to feel better, but still very much in recovery mode. I'm going a little stir-crazy, so I carved a bit this afternoon before I had to lay down again. Abby was having a blast chasing little bits of lino around the table as I worked.
