It has been a while since I posted. So here is why.
At the end of 2023, my wife and I retired and moved from North Texas to Arkansas. We bought a fully developed homestead with 46 acres and a house. We added a cabin for an Airbnb and it is doing much better than we ever expected.
Within a week of moving here, I met lifelong musician, Jerry Keener. Jerry toured on bass for years with Ray Price. We immediately hit it off and became good friends.
About two weeks later, he asked me to join his local band, Jerry Keener and the Classics. I am his keyboardist and occasionally bring a guitar. His wife keeps us booked fairly regularly and the band has a significant and faithful following.
I have made a lot of local friends through this following. Many of them have asked me to form my own band. While I am honored and considered that possibility, that is not as easy as it was in North Texas. I live in a very rural and beautiful county that only has 8900 residents. There are some musicians that play country and bluegrass. Yet, many of them are aged to the point they prefer music as a pass-time instead of being in a working band.
I am also considering restarting a solo act and booking gigs in Hot Springs and Mena, AR. But I need to rebuild a solo show and haven't found the initiative to do so . . . yet.
What does this mean for Buffalo Blues Band? Obviously, it is not practical to book gigs in Texas, nor ask 3 or 4 musicians to travel to Arkansas for a local rate gig.
But that doesn't mean I want to close this page. I am proud of what the band accomplished and the gigs we booked from 2007 to 2023. I very much appreciated ALL the contributions from our core band members and all the sit-in appearances. This time taught me a lot and forged a lot of great friendships.
Thanks for supporting Buffalo Blues Band all these years. You never know when I may find an opportunity to bring the band together again for a reunion in North Texas.
