Tuesday, Susan Jensen and I stood in front of a room of people who are seriously considering going out on their own β€” and told them the truth about what year one actually looks like.

Not the version that sounds good in a bio.

The version where you second-guess the rates you set, question whether you're charging too much or too little, wonder if the quiet periods mean something is wrong β€” and slowly realize the uncertainty doesn't go away. You just get better at working inside it.

That's what "Going All In" was about.

A few things I kept coming back to:

β†’ The business doesn't fail because of the market. It fails because of the decisions you make when no one's watching and there's no manager to escalate to.

β†’ Year one isn't about getting it right. It's about building the tolerance to keep going while you figure it out.

β†’ Your instincts aren't the problem. Your infrastructure usually is.

Almost a decade of building Saint MGMT on the side before I finally went all in.

And honestly? I still wasn't sure I was ready when I did it.

This Tuesday, Susan Jensen and I are presenting at an AMA Richmond educational session to talk about what that first year actually feels like. Not the polished version. The real one β€” the doubt, the freedom, the decisions you have to make when there's no playbook and it's all on you.

We came to solopreneurship from completely different places.

She started from scratch. I spent years building in the margins before I could fully commit. Two different roads β€” but a lot of the same feelings once we got here.
