So what does your homepage need to do in those 5 seconds?

1. Tell them who you are. 👋
Not your whole story. Not your mission statement. Just a clear, simple answer to: "Am I in the right place?" If they have to search for it, they're already gone.

2. Tell them what you do and who it's for. 🎯
Your headline should speak directly to your ideal client. Not "Welcome to our website." But "We help [who] do [what] so they can [result]." Specific beats generic every time!

3. Tell them what to do next. 📩
One clear call to action. Book a call. Learn more. Shop now. Get in touch. Don't make them guess. Guide them! A confused visitor does nothing.

This Mother's Day, I've been thinking about what it actually looks like to do it all, and honestly? It's beautifully messy. 💙

I'm Emily. Mom to three wild, wonderful boys, ages 5, almost 4, and 1. Wife to my favorite person, Staci. Theater teacher and director at St. Luke's School. Volunteer director of SPHERE CT's Performing Arts program. And the founder of Social Graces Communications, where I help purpose-driven brands find their voice and show up online with intention.

Some days I'm running lines with middle schoolers and then jumping on a client call during nap time. Some days, the one-year-old is on my lap while I'm answering emails. Some days I wonder how it all fits together.

And then I remember, it fits together because of the chaos. (And because my wife runs our household! 🩷) Theater taught me how to tell stories. My sons taught me how to think on my feet. Our clients remind me why meaningful work matters.

Directing theater has taught me that Brand Presence is just like a live performance:

📍 Don’t miss your mark. (Your Call to Action needs to be bold and obvious.)
🗣️ Project to the back of the room. (Your mission should be clear even to someone who just discovered you.)
👏 Respect the audience. (They are giving you their time, make sure your content gives them value in return.)
