If you're coming to Rochester Reads, don't miss the Junk Journaling Workshops with History Center of Olmsted County! 📓✂️🖍️

As part of our Rochester Reads event at the History Center on August 1st from 10am - 3pm alongside Ashley Independent House, we're offering Junk Journaling 101 Workshops. Advance registration is required, and space is limited. Join us to learn the art of junk journaling using vintage magazine clippings spanning the late 1800s through today. All supplies will be provided, but you're welcome to bring your own magazines, stickers, paper scraps, or other embellishments to personalize your journal.

Workshop sessions:
11:00 a.m. - Adults
12:30 p.m. – Kids
2:00 p.m. – Adults

Cost:
Adults $8 Member, $10 non-member
Kids $3 Member, $5 non-member

We always encourage reading diversely, regardless of what day it is; however, this Juneteenth we wanted to share some reads by BIPOC authors that have truly impacted us and the way we advocate.

For those who are unfamiliar, Juneteenth is a holiday celebrating the abolition of slavery. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued two years prior, it was hard to enforce in places without a large military presence. June 19, 1865 marks the day that troops finally arrived in Galveston, Texas to free the enslaved.

Thank you to all BIPOC authors who have taken on the burden of educating us through written word. As white people, it is our responsibility to stand up for our friends of color, advocate for their rights, and educate ourselves on the true history of the world.
