part iv, the altar of dalí

For those of you who haven’t heard the story Danny and I met on Raya during the pandemic (friends joke we are probably Raya’s only success story. If you know, you know.) — After months of FaceTimes and collaborating on playlists I finally invited Danny to come visit and meet in person in Flint, Michigan. This man drove from Chicago to Flint so I had to at least plan a “not-date, date” for him while he was in town.

Ironically Danny has a tattoo of the Salvador Dalí meditative rose on his arm, the exact one I’ve had a print of hanging in my bedroom since high school. And there just happened to be a Dalí exhibit at the the weekend he was in town — so I took him to the museum where we saw Dalís and Diego Rivera’s famous murals in Detroit (and if you don’t already know our dogs name is now Diego for this very reason).

This was the start of many pandemic dates in our little love bubble wandering museums and art galleries and falling in love surrounded by our favorite artists.

I always held a deep seated dream of getting married in a museum & it couldn’t be more unique to our story. So after the courthouse we went to and read our vows to one another in front of Dalí’s “Visions of Eternity” that happened to be on display.

This moment was everything we could have dreamt of and more. So intimate. So us. It felt like we were in the same little love bubble we were in during the pandemic exploring museums and art galleries and falling in love.

This is the end of this series & chapter for now, but this love story is truly just beginning…

part iii, the ‘fits

With less than 3 weeks of planning I really didn’t have much time to obsess over trying on dresses or designing anything custom - but an image of Bianca Jagger’s iconic civil ceremony hat & YSL skirt suit has been burned in my brain for almost 2 decades.

I knew I wanted to do a wide brimmed Bianca inspired hat and landed on this made to order Ingrid hat. It was the center piece and I styled the whole look around it.

Originally I thought I was going to wear a white suit I already owned but pivoted 2 weeks before deciding I wanted to wear a dress and feel more feminine and a bit more “bridal.”

It was important to me to shop secondhand as much as possible, for sustainability reasons but also to prove a rebellious point that you can still look chic AF & not spend your savings on an outfit for one day and go against the grain of the “wedding industrial complex”

I ended up ordering 4 dresses from & this dress was the first one I tried on & was *the dress* instantly. (Better yet it was less than $300)

I got lucky a few days before and found my dream heels I’d been searching for all week online. I manifested them in person while doing some in returns at The Real Real. They were my perfect size and truly meant to be.

The week of I got a hair cut with and a spray tan with at

part ii, symbols of our love

One of the unconventional things we did for our elopement is we surprised one another with custom designed wedding bands from .jewelry

Danny designed my engagement ring with & it was a total surprise to me, as we had never even talked about rings.

So when it came to our bands we kept the element of surprise and trusted each other’s creative vision.

Danny is not a simple band guy. I knew I wanted to do an insignia style ring. I wanted him to have some diamond *bling* too; it had to be filled with symbolism; and I wanted it to have some influence from my engagement ring so they felt like they were from the same collection.

When we asked David if we could make it happen in 3 weeks he was on board — typically this would take 6-8 weeks! The design direction and iteration moved fast: David sent me some initial sketches, I sent him a sketch in return, he finalized the design, and we were off to the races!

We used an antique white and yellow diamond on the face of the insignia and hand engraving on the band to mimic my toi-et-moi engagement ring. Facing Danny I included the Irish claddagh hands holding a small emerald because before getting engaged I use to wear the claddagh stacked with a family heirloom emerald. (“I give you my heart; I give you my loyalty”) And engraved on the other side is a Dalí inspired rose, which Danny has tattooed on his arm & I’ve had a print of hanging in my room since high school.

As creatives, rings weren’t a status symbol but a collaborative exercise in designing symbols of our love. Thank you David Perry for your partnership & being game for our crazy spontaneous timeline!

part i — the courthouse, august 15, 2025

Danny and I decided only about 3 weeks before the fifth year anniversary of our first date that we wanted to get married at the courthouse on our anniversary. Five years on the fifth just felt *right*

After getting engaged in April, the original plan was to do a big wedding in Mexico City (and it’s still on the vision board). But the last few months have really challenged us to focus on the long term priorities of our partnership and surrender our timeline.

What’s unique about getting married in the third and fourth decades of life, is you have the confidence of life experience to discern the difference between what you really want & what society tells you that you should want… what feels true to your relationship and what just feels performative for those around you.

I was never a little girl to dream about my wedding day. But I have always said “I want a marriage, not a wedding.” So perhaps I manifested this day the way it was always intended to be:

Intimate, filled with both the assurance and adventure of love, delightfully surprising… and so-so “us.”

We both thought the moment with the judge would feel scripted, impersonal, or rushed…but what surprised us the most was how deeply personal and spiritual that moment felt for us. Thank you Judge Goodman for making that moment feel so special & reminding us to continue holding hands through every season of life.

There was also something so unique about the energy waiting in line with many different couples there to take the sacred and legal step into marriage.

The vibes were high to say the least and exceeded any expectation I had about a civil ceremony.
