The venerable Tip Top Cafe that survived a World War, Rationing, OPEC and too many severe droughts to count, succumbed to the novel COVID-19 virus March 18th at 8 p.m.

The iconic landmark diner is "closed for a while," says General Manager Cecilio Ojeda.

"We are simply doing our part as longtime citizens of San Antonio to help during this mandated city health emergency and complying with edicts from Mayor Ron Nirenberg," an unabashed patron of the diner's legendary menu.

Please pray for our hard-working staff and Tip Top family, who we are making every effort to care for during this hiatus, explains Tip Top Cafe managing partner Jim Scott.

"It's a bitter pill to swallow but we'll take our licks with the rest of America because we know we'll be back stronger and better than before just like our great country, state and citizens," adds Scott.

Go by the place and take some photos, Scott recommends, because just like the 13.5 inches of snow in January 1985 blanketing the Alamo City, the sight of the word "closed" on the 82-year-old diner's vintage neon marque out front is a rarity indeed.
