This Gown is part of the Bowers' Museum's "Red in History Exhibit" featuring the use of a natural dye cultivated by the cochineal insect found on Cacti Plants in the Americas. This Intense Color permanent was created by drying and crushing the insects to produce the dye. It was exported to Europe during the Renaissance.
The featured gown is a contemporary example of modern designers using the same organic dyes. Garments from the 1700s have been known to hold their color into our modern day using this color permanent process. Currently, the cochineal red is used to color food and cosmetic products! - Photo Compliments of Kathleen McCarthy.

Spring 2016 Trend - White Shirt Revival...I'm not sure if its a revival because my rule is every white shirt needs to be evaluated annually and if its less than crisp needs to go. However, I love this trend because it fits perfectly into the OC lifestyle. White shirts can be worn with denim, black leather mini skirts and as seen in the runway shots below. The middle image depicting the white shirt with a print skirt is my favorite look. Head to toe she's stealing the show without really trying.

Spring 2016 Trend - Exposed Shoulders. I've always been a fan of the "Cold Shoulder" Fashion statement. Probibly because I have athletic shoulders that sometimes are hard to fit into tops and jackets with sleeves. One thing I've learned from observing this trend over the years is USE SUNSCREEN! The last thing you want is freckled, burned or even worse leathered shoulders caused by a garment and poor planning. My favorite look is the white halter style on far left. Middle is not even a Hot Mess just an unrealistic Mess that any woman in the real world would cut her bust and increase volume in the waistline. Far right dress is a good contemporary option for those looking to make a statement.

Spring 2016 Trend - Neo Victorian. Now I have always loved Victorian fashion for its drama, prints and overall feminine aesthetic. Bringing the Victorian Essence into our Modern lives can become garrish if done incorrectly. (See photo on far right) Realistic application of this trend means picking a victorian inspired element as one of your garments. For example I would cut the dress on the far left in half and pair the skirt with a simple blouse, sure keep the shoes and and clutch. You're ready to go.

New year deserves a new do. For all the gals out there with hair like mine...fine and not a lot of it. Cut the weight off. I find it always feels bouncy and has more volume when short. This style is a feminine cut that allows me to pull hair back or put up if I want to.
