Not knowing your target audience will cost you money.

Over time you can start narrowing down what avatar will show interest in your product after countless iterations of ad creative and large sums of money spent on running ads. But obviously this isn't the best way to go about it. Your target audience should be the starting point with any kind of advertising campaign. If dialed in, it will allow your messaging to speak to a very specific person who feels like this product is solely made for them. This drives what type of creative is produced and how it will be presented to them.

Most every ad you’ve probably ever seen can most likely be grouped into one of these categories.

It would take forever to go over each of these in detail, but the most important thing is to pay attention to your ideal customer persona. Starting from there and understanding if they tend to be more of an emotional buyer or an analytical buyer, you can target how you want them to respond to your ad. More emotional buyers want to feel a certain way with the product and resonate with things like lifestyle videos, where as analytical buyers like the facts and data from unboxing or case studies.

Video ads, without a doubt, have a much higher chance of grabbing the attention of consumers than any other format of advertising.

In most cases you have about 2-3 seconds to hook the viewers attention. You have a higher chance of stopping the scroll when using a dynamic video vs. a static image. But once you have something interesting enough to get their attention you can begin to walk them through your product. And that should cover the major pains the viewer feels, how the product is the solution, and the results from using it. And this can be done through several different ad types, which we can get into later.
