My lawyer friends- why? I guess it might not be just lawyers, but that’s what I see.

One uses AI, now all want to learn AI. One steers posting Q and As, now all want to do Q and A content.

Where is the INNOVATIVE MARKETING? There’s just too many lawyers, you have to stand out.

It’s the only way to win. Unless you flat out admit defeat and want to spent $30,000 per month on content creation and ads. I can help you with that too, but it’s a waste. Donate to your favorite charity if you have too much $$$$.

And if you’d like help, I’m doing in-person workshops on Saturdays for the next month. If you’re in SoCal and want to start learning how to think, and applying that to content, your customer journey, and winning, send me a DM.

The stubborn finance guy- that’s usually who pushes back on marketing.

And you can’t outwit him or use marketing logic. He wants to save money NOW not next month or next year.

So you have to test an idea to prove its worth- you have to be peer reviewed by reality.

So you test ideas, bad ones, illogical ones, those suggested by your 5 year old, and more.

When you win, and that win can earn you not $100,000, but infinitely over the life of your business, force your finance guy to buy drinks- for the rest of the year, top shelf only.

Food and The hole in the wall theory:

Have you been to a hole in the wall? Usually a smaller spot to eat, off in a corner hidden, and usually doesn’t look the best inside/outside, like there’s possibly a healthcode violation?

But the food is absolutely amazing. You tell friends and family about it for years. You rave about it.

There were two that come to mind in San Diego, one which has since shut down. This one was a Persian spot across the street from UCSD in a business area and it looked mediocre. It took forever to get your food too. But man was it worth it. The chicken, the musteh khiar- just unmatched.

The second spot was an Indian place hidden in the outskirts of Miramar Rd., away from the regular Indian shopping centers and restaurants. A tiny place with outdoor seating only. But freakin amazing. Tastes you couldn’t find at other restaurants, like they used a special kind of butter.

You wouldn’t take your date to ether of these places, but you’d take your closest friends.

But what made it so good? Were their dishes really superior to restaurants all over the city? Better, secret ingredients other chefs didn’t know about?

Or was it the looks of the place, bringing down expectations, leaving you surprised and amazed? A combo?

What do you think? Can you name a place in San Diego that’s a hole in the wall that has unmatched food?

Crack the content code- it’s easy.

Think in reverse:

If you want more sales, don’t sell.
If you want more engagement, just have more fun.
If you want more inquiries, educate instead of advertise.

Yes, advertising has its place, but remember, it’s only a small subset of marketing. And without a proper strategy, your marketing, and advertising, is going kapoot.

When we all compete for attention with ads, only Google and Meta win.

Spoiler: they don’t win any more, it’s our turn.

I saw this all over online, so I thought I’d address this because this is wrong on many different levels.

1. The value of something depends on various things- a can of coke costs different warm vs cold vs in a nice restaurant vs in a vending machine- same for an Uber.

2. The value of something almost never ever depends on the costs of the item. A shirt may cost $0.67 to produce and sold at $10 or $750. There’s overhead. There’s brand allegiance. There’s scarcity.

3. Uber, or having a driver, could be worth $12 or $50,000, but not depending on the car. It could be the driver- imagine how much you would pay if Jay Z were to pick you up and driving you to dinner, or if Elon drove you to the airport. It’s ultimately the entire experience.

4. I once charged $5000 for a single engagement shoot. It lasted a good amount of a day. The couple were happy- they’re still happy many years later to have had the photos and experience. No regrets on how much they paid. How much could you charge for a photoshoot?

5. This meme is bogus because it’s trying to value material costs of two industries that are essentially extinct- we have AI able to do photoshoots and any second now, robo taxis which will pick you up with no human driver. These will cost you $12-$20. But there will still be people paying thousands for private drivers and photographers. Will you be one of these people?

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is coming out and it’s being marketed quite heavily- so why not ride on the coattails of their big $$$?

How? Shape your content around the characters or theme, like we did. We redid some scenes from the first one and are reposting it not just during the release but for the week after as well.

How can you apply this? Well, there are some huge movies coming out, and some events even larger than movies. But you must start preparing now.

If you want to find out how we can help you strategize and create your future content so you have your campaigns locked down, just send me a message and I’ll send you a short video- don’t worry, we don’t have to do a whole Zoom call or talk over ::gasp:: the phone.

How do you make your content stand out, especially in the AI world?

We’ve been unknowingly doing the right thing for the past decade- pat on our backs.

But back to you: how can you stand out?

First, why would you want to? Because people have a certain distaste of AI content. It devalues your brand, plain and simple.

But what if you can prove your content wasn’t AI?

That’s what we do, with behind the scenes (BTS) photos and video.

This allows our clients to see how hard we work, the process, and that AI slop might be cute in some scenarios, but it doesn’t pilot the aircraft.

So what would I recommend? On your next shoot, take behind the scenes footage and photos, even if it’s with an IPhone. But also remember to use it for posts and actually upload them. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Sh!❌ that makes no sense: IKEA.

Have you ever thought how odd of a place IKEA is? They have childcare inside. They have a food court. You could play hide and seek there for hours.

And if you were being 100% honest, it’s nowhere near the best furniture store if you count customer service, quality, or reliability. Or even aesthetics. Or craftsmanship.

But it dominates other stores like no other.

The lesson is this: a brand is wasting life away with the “let’s be the best!” talk or the “we have the best X!” It’s so relative to begin with and IKEA is evidence that the best doesn’t win.

How can you be unique to win?

Sometimes the best ideas make no freakin sense.

Todays example: Farmers Markets

Why do people go to them?

You have to make a new purchase from each vendor. It’s often not cheaper than going to the store, although it’s right from the source!

And they’re inconvenient- usually only on one or two days a week, for a few hours, and somewhere with garbage parking.

So why do they thrive?

People value certain things more than price and convenience.

Community is one.
Niche items sometimes.
Signaling is another.

They attend an event with like minded people, they tribe, and tell everyone for the rest of the day that they were at a Farmer’s Market.

If you go, why? What are the top reasons you go?

I told my kid I just don’t understand, so he insisted we make this video.

Like in every other industry, they hire a pro when they need help. But there’s a shame or something when it comes to content and strategy.

You should definitely work with a team (trio ideally) who can help you strategize and implement a strategy when it comes to marketing in general but yours is unique to your brand and goals, along with your customers.

Ask for help if you’re not sure. Even the creative process might be what’s missing.

A real life inception happening in real time.

You’ve been brainwashed to feel video now is a waste, oversaturated by crappy phone shots or deceptives algorithm leeching traps.

{In my old man voice] Back in the day, a video could generate $15,000 of revenue in a single day- I could sign up 400 people in my course from one ad! Back in the day, we had winners like the Kony campaign which changed American foreign intervention policy!

But what can video do in 2026?

Besides user generated content.. or trends... or deceptive videos to get you to watch for no reason...

The answer is it can still do what it used to do, and more.

The problem is you have to be intentional- like before. But big tech- the algorithm- have watered down the field and almost brainwashed people to believe any video can work, anything can be considered a strategy, and going viral is a key metric for success- but it’s THEIR success.

Their success through virality means more ad revenue, but it can lead you to 2 sales or 1 new clients. Your success might mean only 1000 views instead of 900,000, but 100 sales or 25 new clients- the metrics for measuring success are different and the tech is trying to change your perception.

A real life inception happening in real time.

You can escape it. A content strategy plus implementation plus accountability = winning.

Ask for help if you’re honest and feel like it’s the time.
