Donn Johnson hired me to work at KPBS TV in 2000 where I worked for 9 years. He was true mentor to me and so many others in my industry for many years and continues to be today. Today I’m excited to be a part of the NATAS PSW chapter where we just announced the first ever Donn Johnson NATAS Mentorship award at the Student Production Awards. Congratulations Donn. Robert Hotz is an Emmy Award-winning television and creative media professional with more than 25 years of experience producing high-impact visual content. A San Diego native, he is a graduate of San Diego State University’s College of Television, Film, and New Media.

His career spans documentaries, daily television programming, commercial campaigns, and station image promotion. He spent nine years at KPBS-TV producing documentary and community-focused content, followed by nearly a decade at KGTV 10News as Creative Services Chief Videographer/Editor, where he helped shape the station’s visual brand and promotional strategy.

Robert later served as Promotions Manager at FOX 5 San Diego, playing a key role in launching and producing the daily lifestyle show The LOCAList SD, guiding its creative direction in a competitive market.

He is the founder of RHotz Creative Media, producing branded content and storytelling for a diverse range of clients. His work has earned him seven Emmy Awards, reflecting a career defined by creative excellence.

Robert also serves on the executive committee of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Pacific Southwest Chapter (NATAS PSW), supporting initiatives that advance and strengthen the broadcast industry.
