FLOCK Group, Inc will be asking for additional equipment, software and money for the SMPD’s AI license plate recognition technology.

🔸It is common for data centers to use gas turbines. Per the Sabey data center website, they sure do.
Gas turbines release 3 main types of pollutants: nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde, and fine particulate matter.
Nitrogen oxides can cause fluid build up in the lungs, worsen COPD, weaken the immune system making folks more susceptible to infections.
Formaldehyde causes cancer.
Fine particulate matter can pass through the lungs and into the bloodstream, causing heart disease.

WHAT WE KNOW
🔸 Developer intends to sell land to undisclosed 3rd party if they secure the zoning changes that will be presented before city council on April 15, 2025.
🔸 The land is currently zoned as Conservation Cluster/Ranch Land. The developer is asking to change it to Light Industrial/Low employment.
🔸 AI Data centers require exorbitant amounts of water, electricity, gas pipelines, and other resources normally allocated for residents.
🔸 This area is already subjected to severe drought and unstable electrical grid, especially in severe weather.
🔸 Noise Pollution levels from data centers are equivalent to a rock concert in decimal outputs & can cause long term health problems for residents, livestock & wildlife in the area.
🔸 80% of the property will become Impervious cover if zoning changes pass. This will cause pollution and increase flash flooding along York creek.
🔸 Heat generated by AI data plants creates heat island effects, increasing already record high temperatures.
🔸 There is low job growth with AI data centers. San Marcos resources would be wasted with no benefit to the community.
🔸 San Marcos is expected to run out of water by 2047 if drastic measures aren’t taken now.
🔸 There is a cemetery for one of the oldest settlements in the country in the middle of this property.
