Instagram is quietly testing three changes right now. Most CEOs will find out when their reach drops.

Here's what's actually happening, and what it means for your marketing.

One. Instagram is testing a "Friends" label based on mutual follows instead of your raw following number. The signal is clear even if the mechanics are cosmetic: vanity metrics are losing their power to sell. Relationships are what the platform wants to surface.

Two. Users now steer their own algorithm. As of this year they pick the topics they see, on Reels, Explore, and now the main feed. You no longer get discovered by accident. You get discovered because your content clearly belongs to a topic someone chose.

Three, and this is the one nobody's ready for. Public Instagram posts from professional accounts are now indexed by Google. Your caption doesn't disappear down the feed anymore. It becomes a search result that keeps working for months. Your Instagram is now part of your search footprint.

None of this is a design problem or an algorithm problem. It's a leadership question. Does the person running your marketing know all three of these already, and have a plan for each?

If you ask your team and get silence, that silence is your marketing audit.

Comment AUDIT and we'll walk you through where your setup actually stands.

Instagram limits of 2026

Your marketing isn't failing because the ads are bad.

It's failing because nobody at the top ever decided what winning looks like.

You've got a full team. A real budget. A month of work that looks impressive. Posts shipped, campaigns launched, dashboards full of numbers. And if you asked anyone on that team what all of it was supposed to achieve, you'd get five different answers.

That's not a design problem. Not an algorithm problem. A direction problem.

Look at the companies that actually grow. They don't have better creative. They don't have bigger budgets. They have one thing the others don't. Clear direction from the leader.

Every marketing engine that works runs on the same three things. A clear strategy. The right priorities. A team that knows the plan. Miss those and no amount of ad spend saves you.

So stop asking "why isn't my marketing working." That question teaches you nothing.

Ask this instead. Does my team know what winning looks like this quarter?

If you can't get a fast, specific answer, you just found the real gap.

And before you approve another budget, one more. Would you bet your own money on this plan? If the answer is no, the problem was never the marketing.

Save this and ask both questions in your next team meeting. Watch what happens.

Comment SPRINT and we'll show you how the 30-Day Strategy Sprint closes that gap.

Most CEOs budget for a full-time VP of Marketing without ever running the actual math.
So let's run it. A full-time VP starts around $150,000 in salary. Add benefits, add onboarding and tools, and you're past $200,000 before that person has shipped a single campaign. Then comes the ramp-up, the months before they're actually producing. You're paying senior-salary money to wait.
A fractional CMO changes the shape of that spend entirely. A fraction of the cost, senior-level strategy, and active from week one. No ramp-up, no equity, no benefits overhead. You're buying the expertise without buying the wait.
The math isn't complicated. Most CEOs just never sit down and do it, because "hire a VP" feels like the default move when growth stalls. It isn't. It's the expensive one.
So here's the real question. What's actually stopping you from running the numbers on your own marketing spend right now?
Comment MATH and we'll walk you through what a fractional setup would look like for your business.

You didn't start your company to write ad copy at midnight.
But somewhere between hiring, selling, and keeping the lights on, marketing became one more thing on your plate. So you became the CEO, the CMO, the copywriter, the ad buyer, the strategist, and the person fixing the website when everyone else logged off.
Here's the part nobody says out loud: the CEOs who actually scale don't get better at marketing. They stop doing it. They hand the strategy to someone senior enough to own it end to end, and they get their time back to close deals, build partnerships, and lead.
That's what a Fractional CMO does. Owns the strategy. Leads the team. Reports on revenue and pipeline, not likes and impressions. Senior leadership, a fraction of the full-time cost, no long-term lock-in.
You built the company. Let us build the marketing engine.
Comment SCALE and we'll send over the details on the 30-Day Strategy Sprint. Starts with one free call.

I’ve lost count of how many CEOs I’ve spoken to who thought they had a marketing problem.

More ads.
More content.
More reports.
More agency meetings.

Yet revenue stayed flat.

The reality?

Most businesses aren’t struggling because of a lack of marketing.

They’re struggling because they’re paying for activity instead of outcomes.

Traditional agencies often focus on deliverables:
✔️ Posts
✔️ Ads
✔️ Reports
✔️ Impressions

But none of those guarantee growth.

The businesses that scale fastest focus on:
→ Revenue attribution
→ Marketing ROI
→ Lead generation
→ Conversion optimization
→ Business strategy
→ Performance accountability

Marketing should never be a cost center.

It should be a predictable growth engine.

Before you spend another dollar on ads, ask yourself:

Do you know exactly what’s driving revenue in your business or are you just paying for marketing activity?

The difference is where real business growth happens.
