What is this?
It’s a ticket! 12 years ago today I was embarking on a whirlwind, 24 hour trip to NYC to go to the listening party for Whitney Houston’s first studio album in 7 years, I Look to You. It was the experience of a lifetime.
How did this happen? Well, back in 2007, I sent then SVP of Artist & Development, Scott Seviour, a proposed campaign for Whitney Houston’s comeback album. I did receive a note back shortly thereafter saying that he had reviewed the proposal which included the “ad” on the second slide. Fast forward to May 2009, out of the blue, I received a phone call from Mr. Seviour saying that they would like to use my idea in their initial marketing efforts of the new album. The gold and black version is the final design that Sony/BMG/Arista created.
Thank to this, I received a ticket for the listening event. What an amazing and unforgettable experience!!! Something I still can’t believe happened. It was amazing to see my concept on video screens and illuminated on the wall at the listening event, and moreso knowing that it was used worldwide in a sizzle reel, print and digital advertising, and outdoor.
Along with the ticket, concept and end product are a couple pictures from that day - the marquee of Jazz at Lincoln Center where the event was held and an image of the album cover that hung inside the venue from down below in Columbus Circle.
As I said, it was an unforgettable experience! Thank you to Sony/BMG, Arista, Scott Sevior, and most of all, Whitney Houston!
