Last week, I had the incredible privilege of standing up for the small business community in Washington, D.C., as a member of Intuit’s Small Business Council. It was an intense, inspiring, and action-packed two days of advocacy, high-level discussions, and... a lot of walking.
Here is a look at what we tackled:
Day 1: Advocating on Capitol Hill
We laced up our walking shoes (I logged a solid 5 miles traversing the Hill!) to meet with lawmakers and advocate for the PACE Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to modernize our payments infrastructure, lower costs, and speed up how small businesses get paid. Because let’s face it, cash flow delays are a massive hurdle for growth.
We had incredibly encouraging conversations with the staff from the offices of:
Arizona: Representative David Schweikert, Senator Mark Kelly, and Senator Ruben Gallego.
Idaho: Senator Mike Crapo, Representative Mike Simpson, and Senator Jim Risch.
To my fellow business owners: If you’ve ever felt the pain of slow payments, I encourage you to speak up and make your voice heard. Our stories have real power in shaping policy.
Day 2: White House Small Business Roundtable
The next day, we headed to the White House for a Small Business Roundtable on AI. We shared firsthand accounts of how we are currently leveraging AI in our businesses, while highlighting what’s missing for widespread, equitable adoption:
• Investment in AI Literacy: Access to tools isn't enough; business owners need the education and training to use them effectively.
• A Unified Federal Framework: To grow confidently, we need a consistent federal framework for AI rather than navigating a confusing patchwork of state laws.
A massive thank you to the entire Intuit team for the flawless ex*****on and hard work that went into arranging this special visit. This council is an absolute powerhouse, and I'm honored to be a part of it.
My only real complaint from the entire trip? My hair absolutely did not know how to behave in D.C.!
