Guess who’s fully vaccinated!
I’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for almost a whole month now, and you can be too! I’ll start out with a disclaimer that I am not a doctor nor am I an expert on vaccines, but I am a self-proclaimed expert in being sick and in through research. Another disclaimer, I am here to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the vaccine, whether it’s personal experience or just needing some direction for research.
My mom and I were able to receive our first vaccine right before I headed off to California in March. We drove to a Walmart Super Center in Kirksville, Missouri. I’m located right out of Saint Louis, so our drive was about 3 and a half hours. My mom qualified to get the shot early as a teacher, and I had the opportunity to get the shot because of my medical history and heart conditions. We were so grateful to get our shots that a 7-hour car ride seemed like nothing. After over a year of avoiding the plague, we were going to be safe.
We rolled up to a rundown Walmart and were vaccinated within minutes. I can’t explain the relief I felt after getting my dose and the enormous amount of gratitude I felt for everyone involved in creating this life-saving vaccine. The whole world had put their head down and got to work.
“Virtually painless followed by a few naps and a sore arm” is how I’d describe my first shot. Our second shot followed a few weeks later at another Walmart in Sedalia, Missouri (again in the middle of nowhere). The second shot definitely hit a little harder than the first. I ran a slight fever and needed a lot of rest for the next few days.
I wanted to write this post and share briefly about my experience, because I don’t know how confident I am that we understand the importance of vaccinations and how they work. I’ve seen a lot of post about “well it was developed in less than a year, I don’t trust that.” Or “I’m not here to tell you to get the vaccine because it’s your choice.”
I’m calling bu****it and I’m calling a foul! I’m glad that for some people COVID isn’t deadly, but that’s kind of the point, for some people… it is.
