2.The Oath
Over 15yrs ago my mother passed away(rest in peace). She had a best friend while I was growing up that became almost a second mom to me. One day we were having a normal conversation like always but she grew very serious very fast. She asked me to make a promise, she was worried about her granddaughter (I consider her my niece now). She said if anything were to happen to me, I need you promise to look after her. Of course I took her request seriously. Two months later she passed away. (Rest in peace).

Fast forward 5 years and we’re in the middle of Covid. Business is going good but I wasn’t ready for what was about to happen next.

Just a normal day, Kathy was doing better and still very independent. Then I got call from my niece. When she got home from school, sheriffs were at her house and that she couldn’t go in. When I arrived I was told she was evicted and unless I paid a portion of the past due rent that she wouldn’t be allowed to get any of her things. She was 15. After paying the landlord for entry, they gave us 6 hours to collect what we could.
I made a promise and I didn’t want her to enter foster care. So with the few things we collected we went to my apartment. She didn’t have a bed or much cloths and still had high school to worry about. The savings I had to scale my business now went to provide for my niece. We went shopping got her new bed and cloths and started to look to towards the future. At this point she was behind in school. With a little determination she was able to graduate on time in 2023. She loves to draw, amine and video games and is trying to navigate adulthood.
At this time it was hard for me to put 100% into the business but was thankful I had it. It gave me the opportunity to be there for my niece and also the time to help my neighbor Kathy.
Around this time Kathy had a stroke but was able to recover and come home but things weren’t getting easier for her.

*Journey to inspire*
Short story by 920 Mas

1. The path we’re on isn’t always the path we have chosen. Sometimes a ripple happens and it changes your path. I choose to start this business because…..

2. The Catalyst.
14 years ago my relationship ended and my lease. I was lucky to find a great place with a great landlord. The older lady pictured above is Kathy, my landlord, friend and I would even consider to be my aunt. Kathy is very independent firecracker full of a lot spice and very little sugar. She lived alone in the house she paid off on her own and did majority of the remodeling herself.
About 7 years ago today, I was working the nite shift. When I got off of work, all I could hear is screaming coming from her house. She had fallen and broken her hip. The whole house was locked and I had to kick the door in. By the time I got to her and the ambulance arrived she had been on the floor for 6 hours. 😢
After that day, I knew I would have to be around a lot more. I spent the next year researching businesses I could start at home with little to no investment. Most important thing I learned was “if you want to start business, look around the people close to and find something they need.”
In 2019, I started 920mas. Unfortunately a few months of running the business in my apartment. Kathy couldn’t stand the noise so I had to move the shop to another location which actually worked out for the better.
Now we’re entering COVID and business is actually doing well but I definitely didn’t know what I was doing. Since majority of my business is online, things were great because everyone was at home ordering online. I was ready to start scaling the business than,
I got a phone call that would change my life forever.

Chapter 2 will be in the next post and it’s riveting.
I’m keeping it short and some stuff in the story is personal and no one’s business. I’m telling this story to inspire people to be better to our neighbors, families and community. Thanks for lending me your ear!

About 8 years ago, I had the opportunity to travel will one our local bands and help them on the road selling merch. Then I asked myself why wasn’t I making the merch for them. So I started to learn how to make shirts and anything else that was possible. I’ve been to multiple countries and all over the US and this weekend the entire west coast…
