One of the biggest mistakes many small businesses still make on social media is relying almost entirely on photos and graphics while avoiding video content altogether. The reality is video continues to outperform static images in reach, engagement, watch time, comments, and shares across nearly every major platform.

The reason is simple. Video feels more human. It allows customers to see personalities, hear stories, build trust, and feel connected to a business in a way photos alone often cannot accomplish. Behind-the-scenes clips, educational tips, customer reactions, team introductions, quick updates, and simple day-to-day content often perform extremely well because people naturally connect with movement and personality online.

At The Social Boost of Southeast Michigan, we help businesses create realistic video strategies that feel authentic, approachable, and consistent without making content creation feel overwhelming.

Now we want to know… do YOU personally prefer watching videos online or looking at photos?

This Memorial Day, all of us at The Social Boost want to take a moment to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives serving our country. While many people spend the holiday weekend with family and friends, it is important to reflect on the true meaning behind Memorial Day and the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we enjoy every single day.

Behind every flag is a story of courage, service, sacrifice, and families who continue carrying the memory of loved ones who never made it home. Their selflessness and dedication deserve to be remembered not only today, but throughout the entire year.

From The Social Boost family to yours, thank you to all who have served and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

One of the biggest mistakes businesses make with social media marketing is trying to be everywhere instead of being strategic about where their actual audience spends time. Not every platform works the same, and not every customer demographic behaves the same online.

For example, Facebook may still be incredibly valuable for local businesses, homeowners, parents, and community-driven brands, while TikTok tends to favor fast-paced entertainment, trends, younger audiences, and personality-driven content. Instagram often performs well for visual industries like food, beauty, fitness, and lifestyle brands, while LinkedIn works better for certain professional and B2B businesses. The key is understanding where your ideal customers already are and creating content designed specifically for how they consume information on that platform.

Good social media marketing is not about posting everywhere nonstop. It’s about posting intentionally where your audience is most likely to engage, trust you, and eventually become customers.

One of the most common questions small business owners ask is, “How much should I actually be spending on social media marketing?” And honestly, the answer depends on your goals, your industry, your competition, and how fast you want to grow. But one thing most businesses don’t realize is that effective social media marketing is usually more about consistency and strategy than simply throwing huge amounts of money at ads.

For many small businesses, the biggest mistake isn’t spending too little… it’s spending money in the wrong places. We’ve seen businesses spend thousands boosting random posts with no strategy while completely ignoring things that actually build long-term growth like consistent content creation, quality video, local SEO keywords, engagement, storytelling, and building trust with their audience over time.

The truth is, a smaller consistent monthly investment with the right strategy behind it will usually outperform random inconsistent spending every single time. Especially for local businesses throughout Metro Detroit, authentic content and community connection often matter more than trying to look like a giant national brand. Social media works best when people feel connected to the humans behind the business.

So now we’re curious… what do YOU think is a reasonable monthly budget for social media marketing for a small business? Drop your answer below because this debate always gets interesting fast.

Let’s be honest for a second… every business owner seems to have at least one social media platform they absolutely cannot stand dealing with. Maybe Facebook feels impossible to get reach on lately. Maybe Instagram is constantly changing. Maybe TikTok feels overwhelming. Maybe LinkedIn feels awkward and uncomfortable. Or maybe you’ve been trying to figure out YouTube and have no idea where to even start.

The truth is, every platform has its own personality, algorithm, audience behavior, content style, and learning curve. What works incredibly well on one platform can completely flop on another, and that’s usually where business owners start getting frustrated. A lot of people think they’re “bad at social media” when really they just haven’t learned how to communicate properly on the specific platform they’re using yet.

So now we’re curious… which social media platform gives you the biggest headache right now and why? Leave a comment below because chances are a lot of other business owners are struggling with the exact same thing. And honestly, your answer might inspire one of our next videos.

Before social media managers were juggling schedules, content calendars, messages, trends, algorithms, and five different things at once… moms were already doing it better. Honestly, mothers might be the original experts at balancing chaos, solving problems on the fly, showing up for everyone else, and somehow still making people feel loved in the middle of it all.

At The Social Boost of Southeast Michigan, we work with so many incredible women business owners, moms, grandmothers, caregivers, and hardworking families throughout Metro Detroit who somehow continue showing up every single day even when life gets overwhelming. And if we’re being honest, a lot of the strength, patience, creativity, and heart we admire in business owners probably started with lessons learned from mom somewhere along the way.
So this Mother’s Day, we just want to say thank you to all the moms out there doing the impossible every day, often without enough recognition for it. We hope you get a chance to slow down, laugh a little, eat something good, and feel appreciated the way you deserve.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at The Social Boost.

One of the biggest misconceptions in social media marketing is that if a post doesn’t perform well the first time, the content must not be good. Honestly, that’s usually not true. Sometimes you can spend hours creating a great video or post, and it still doesn’t get the engagement you hoped for. The reality is, social media algorithms are influenced by timing, keywords, hashtags, audience activity, and a dozen other factors most people never think about.

The good news is that small adjustments can completely change the outcome. Posting at a more active time, refining your caption, changing your hashtags, improving your hook, or adjusting your keywords for better SEO can suddenly push the same content to a much larger audience. You already put in the hard work creating the content, you might as well maximize its reach instead of letting it disappear after one upload.

At The Social Boost of Southeast Michigan, this is exactly the kind of strategy we focus on for businesses across Metro Detroit. Follow for more social media tips, content strategy ideas, and digital marketing tricks that help your content work harder for your business.

Let’s talk about something that’s been around since the beginning of social media, how people handle negative experiences online. If you’ve had a bad experience at a business, whether it’s food, service, or cleanliness, your frustration is valid. But before jumping straight to a negative review or public post, there’s a step that often gets skipped, a simple conversation.

Most businesses want the chance to fix the issue. In many cases, they may not even be aware of what happened, or they could be dealing with staffing changes, training issues, or something temporary. A quick phone call or message gives them the opportunity to make it right, and often, that leads to a better outcome for everyone involved. It also helps support local businesses instead of damaging their reputation over something that could be resolved quickly.

At The Social Boost of Southeast Michigan, we believe in building stronger connections both online and offline. If you’re serious about social media marketing, online reputation management, and supporting small businesses in Metro Detroit, this is part of the bigger picture. Let’s create better conversations, not just louder ones.

One of the biggest mistakes I see business owners make is hitting “post” without warming anything up first. Social media isn’t just about what you post, it’s about how you show up before you post. Spend 5 to 10 minutes engaging with your ideal audience first. Like their content, leave thoughtful comments, and interact in a real way. You’re signaling to the platform who you want your content in front of before it even goes live.

This is how the algorithm starts working in your favor. The more genuine interaction you give, the more visibility you get back. It’s not about random engagement, it’s about being intentional with the people you actually want as customers. This is one of the simplest social media strategy tips that can increase reach, engagement, and overall performance without changing your content at all.

If you want more strategies like this or want someone to handle it for you, reach out and let’s talk about how to grow your presence the right way.
