Recently, a potential client asked

how it is that I actually adopt people’s voices. 🗣

At the time, I offered my logistical approach:

👉🏼 stalk your feed, platforms, etc.
👉🏼 listen to your reels, IGTVs and story content
👉🏼 read anything and everything you’ve ever written

This is all true. I love to research. 🤓

I love figuring out what makes people tick. ⚙️

But here’s what I missed 👇🏼

I’m a synthesizer. It’s my job to take what you have already delivered, how you speak about yourself and your business and translate that into written word.

I’m a business chameleon, I take what exists and meld into it.

What does this mean for you?

Copywriters can always suggest verbiage, angles and marketing spins for whatever you’ve got going on but you bring the meat!

Looking at my tiny wins like...

Social growth doesn’t happen over night and followers are nowhere near a good measure of how much income someone is making online.

So if we’re not looking at how many followers someone has as a measure of success, what metrics SHOULD we be looking at?

👉🏼 Impressions
👉🏼 Saves
👉🏼 Shares
👉🏼 Post/Stories interactions

All of these things tell Instagram you are very important and special, yes. BUT

MORE IMPORTANTLY it tells you things about your audience.

And that’s what we should truly give a s**t about.

What kind of content are people interacting with the most? What content is being saved for later and shared with others? What kind of comments are people leaving? Are they engaged, carrying on conversations with you?

Metrics should be treated like they are Gandalf. 🧙‍♂️

A wise confidant you consult when you have no idea where to go next.

And I felt... good? I felt sure of myself. I searched for panic but could not find it.

I was consciously walking away from money. I have never done that in my life... In the past, I have rushed, nay, SPRINTED toward money opportunities 💰💸. ⁠⠀⠀

I grew up poor... I'm talking, "the gas was shut off, we're eating Ramen for dinner again" kind of poor. In my family, we do NOT say no to money. ⁠⠀⠀

But this week, I did. I walked away. I did the vibe check... and it wasn't right... something was off. My gut clenched, spirit gave the subtle nudge and I listened. ⁠⠀⠀

I sent a polite and straight to the point email and that was that. The vibe had been evaluated and found undesireable. ⁠⠀⠀

✨ Am I excited to work with this person? (Hint: if the answer isn't a clear and resounding "YES", run.)⁠⠀⠀

The point here is to always be at ease in your relationships with your clients. You did not walk away from the cubicle life just to experience a different brand of pressure, anxiety and unease. ⁠⠀⠀

Whether you're searching on Instagram, Facebook or the great wide web, optimization is key to helping your dream humans find you. ⁠⠀

In the social media world, optimization means a few key things: ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
✨ Listing what you do in the "name" section of your profile ⁠⠀
✨ Getting keyword specific and "punchy" with your bio ⁠⠀
✨ Including alt text on every photo - Note: Instagram will auto generate this for you but it's an underutilized opportunity to plug in keyword rich text ⁠⠀
✨Get with it in the captions. Captions are THE place to give bots and humans alike the fine details of what your content is all about⁠⠀
✨ Create content that others will want to share - this is the equivalent of a backlink for websites. The more other people share your content, the more authority you will build. ⁠⠀
✨ Hashtags are the most well known means of attracting eyeballs but they're often abused and misused. We could talk for DAYS about this but in short, keep them relevant, switch them up and keep track of what hashtags your ideal humans are following. ⁠⠀

Scenario #1: You DO know how to market yourself but you DON’T have the time🧑🏽‍💻😓

Outsourcing to a VA in this scenario literally frees up your time. 37 million opportunities missed.

That is the sum of what you’re losing out on if you are not linking to and selling your products directly on Instagram.

Over 1/3 of users on Instagram are making a purchase decisions daily (from directly within the app). The data consistently shows that Etsy sellers, Shopify users, etc should be utilizing this incredible tool.

Pro tip: Shopify is an official partner platform for Instagram so it’s easier to integrate. It’s still possible to sell directly from Etsy but you’ll have a few more hoops to jump through.

Implementing the feature is admittedly tedious 😅 Facebook over complicated the process this last year or so.

From a high level:
Step 1 - Sign up for Facebook Business Manager

Step 2 - Link your Instagram to your Facebook business page

Step 3 - Create a Facebook product catalog

Step 4 - Get approval from Instagram to sell your products on their platform

What makes you so special?

A question that makes many business owners and brands freeze.

You might sputter something generic like “high-quality products” or “we have unmatched customer service”, or my personal favorite “we truly care about our customers”.

Without a clear vision and understanding of who you are as a brand and what makes you unique, you are no more appealing than the next Joe Shmoe, my friend.

If you find yourself in an over saturated market, defining your differentiators and blasting them consistently is going to be the key to connecting with customers and drawing in your ideal audience.

Let’s get to the meat of your brand.

What are your defining characteristics as a human? Who do you cherish most in your life?

Why did you get into this business?

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

What has changed for you over the years?

Who is your ideal client/customer and why? What do they look like, how old are they, are they polished and pressed or giving more of a hippie vibe?

Roll all of these things up in a ball and you have exactly what makes your brand uniquely you.

You have purpose, you have a connection and you have drive.

Let this leak into every aspect of your business.
