Moore County Schools is closer to finding a new home and funding for its currently beleaguered information technology building.

Following several false starts, the district is looking to place the facility on a parcel behind the football field at Union Pines High School.

Until recently, the district planned to use state lottery dollars to fund the $3.3 million project; however, lottery funding cannot be used for facilities that do not contain students.

Still Us Foundation announces that its signature adaptive golf program, formerly known as Engaged Golf, has been reimagined and renamed Still Us on the Green.

The program welcomes people experiencing brain change and the loved ones who walk beside them — spouses, adult children, neighbors and professional caregivers — onto the same green, in the same patch of sunlight. There are no scorecards, and all swings are welcome.

The county’s estimated population growth between 2024 and 2025 showed an increase of 2,200 people in Moore, due in large part to two factors: proximity to Fort Bragg and the area’s draw as a retirement destination. A comparatively low increase in the labor force reflects that, with just over 60 additional people joining the labor pool over that same period.

Moore County has seen just over 1,000 new participants from January 2024 through March of this year, resulting in a labor force of 46,568 people.

Recently released county unemployment statistics show a shrinking labor force in Moore County. The number of employed and unemployed individuals both fell over the year, with 163 fewer people reported

If the inaugural ninth-grade class of Red Wolves at the Moore Innovative High School are the standard bearers, the bar has been set high.

The school district’s newest educational offering, housed in Van Dusen Hall on the Sandhills Community College campus, wrapped up its first year last month, and as the numbers roll in, students’ educational outcomes far exceed state averages.

If the inaugural ninth-grade class of Red Wolves at the Moore Innovative High School are the standard bearers, the bar has been set high.
