As we approach Juneteenth, we find ourselves reflecting on the resonance of freedom, what it means to cultivate joy, legacy, and resilience in the heart of Spokane. Being Black in this city is an act of creation; it is a tapestry woven from the stories of our ancestors and the unwritten promise of our children.

This Living Archive is an exploration of the Black experience, the power of our collective presence, and the beauty that exists in our everyday resistance.

We stand not just as co-founders of Glos Creative Studio, but as witnesses. We are here to document the faces, the textures, and the stories that make up the vibrant reality of Black life in Spokane.

This is our homage to the past, our celebration of the present, and our investment in the future.

Community is built through conversation.

During Spokane's Juneteenth celebration, NAACP Spokane President Lisa Gardner hosted a fireside conversation with Cliff Avril centered on leadership, togetherness, and the importance of investing in one another.

These conversations become part of the historical record. They capture not only what was said, but what a community valued, questioned, and carried forward during a specific moment in time.

Art Saves brought together poets, battle rappers, artists, and community members for an evening of creative expression and collective gathering. What unfolded wasn't simply a performance, it was a living record of people sharing stories, perspectives, and experiences in real time.

As storytellers, we believe these moments deserve to be preserved. The conversations, the energy, the voices on stage, and the people in the room all contribute to the cultural history of a place.

Watching a new wave of creatives and business owners step into their next chapter is always really special. Some are just getting started, some are already building amazing things, but all of them showed up with passion, vision, and courage.

We’re forever grateful for what poured into us during our time in the program. It truly helped set us on a path that changed everything for our creative business.

It was also so good reconnecting with other graduates and being in a room full of people creating, building, and dreaming big here in Spokane.

History isn’t just kept in books, it's lived, spoken, and carried in the faces of our community.

As we approach Juneteenth, we are embarking on a passion project to document the spirit, resilience, and joy of Black life right here in Spokane. We’re building a living archive, and we want you and your families in the frame.

We’re opening a very limited window on June 7th for a special (FREE) portrait session. This isn’t a standard headshot; it’s an editorial collaboration. We’re asking you to show up as your most authentic, era-inspired selves.

-Participants receive one high-res editorial portrait.

It was such a pleasure supporting their team through two meaningful events and helping bring creative pieces of the work together along the way.
