It’s amazing how the simple act of holding a camera allows you to focus on what’s really important and reframe the world. That was the situation when Chrissy headed out the door last May. “I was going through a really tough time”, she recalled. “I knew if I just got up, got out and took some photos downtown, it would make me feel better.” Those are words every photographer has uttered in their mind at one point or another, am I right? There’s something therapeutic about living in the moment with your camera in hand, that gentle click of the shutter button, watching the world revolve around your lens.
Chrissy found herself in , one of her favorite places to photograph in the city. She took a few pictures before deciding to return to her car. Rather than retracing her steps, she opted for a different route past the SkyRide. When she rounded the corner to the Carousel, this incredible scene unveiled itself…that tangerine sky and double rainbow outstretched over two landmarks in downtown Spokane.
“The composition was just there, laid out in front of me,” she remembered. “It was one of those amazing moments to be human and soak up the beauty of our world for a few minutes alongside other people.” For Chrissy, the impact of this moment was instant. “I knew I was meant to be in that place, in that time.”
Chrissy captured this image with an aperture of f5 at 1/20 of a second and ISO 100. The image was lightly edited in Lightroom for clarity and vibrancy to reflect what she observed that evening.
