Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is incredibly grateful to the New World Foundation for recently 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 $𝟮𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 to support our ongoing advocacy efforts related to data centers in Loudoun County.

𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀, by far, the location with 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. In fact, there has not been a single day in the past 14 years when a data center was not under construction somewhere in Loudoun County!

The financial gains data center proliferation has delivered to the region have come at a 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. Thanks to this generous grant, Loudoun Wildlife can continue working alongside our partners, members, and residents to 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀that better balance economic development with environmental stewardship.

𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝘀 on 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟳𝘁𝗵, from 𝟮:𝟯𝟬–𝟱:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 for 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 — and this year’s celebration is extra special as we gather for the very first time at our new home in the historic Waterford Foundation Inc. Old School auditorium in Waterford. A social time begins at 2:30 and the meeting begins at 3:00 pm sharp!

Come celebrate a year of conservation victories, community impact, and the people who make it all possible. This inspiring afternoon will include:
✨ Interactive displays from Loudoun Wildlife programs
✨ Presentations from local high school science fair winners
✨ Volunteer and partner recognition
✨ Light refreshments
✨ An unforgettable keynote from Dr. Mamie Parker — former Head of Fisheries for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and a nationally recognized conservation leader

The 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 is always filled with energy, connection, and a shared passion for protecting wildlife and healthy habitats across Loudoun County. We can’t wait to welcome you into our new space and celebrate together.

🌧️Rain and wind may have kept some birds tucked away, but our April 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 still delivered some memorable spring sightings between the showers.

Led by Joe Coleman and Pat Whittle, participants observed 26 species during a damp but rewarding morning along Broad Run and the Potomac.

🦆Highlights included 3 Wood Ducks flying past the river confluence, 2 female Hooded Mergansers, a Palm Warbler, and plenty of singing White-throated Sparrows and Yellow-rumped Warblers filling the park with spring sound whenever the rain let up.

Even on quieter migration mornings, there’s always something to discover outdoors—and sometimes the best bird activity happens when you least expect it.

🐝Bees (and pollinators) are absolutely essential to life! Today, slow down for a few moments & take notice of the bees in your garden, your yard, and all around you...wherever you go-->and give them some space, send them some love, & please don't kill them, or spray them, or swat at them. 🩷
