Tick Repelling Basil Spray for Dogs
Here is how to make an effective tick repellent using fresh or dried basil. Just bring 4 cups water to a boil and add 4 tablespoons dried basil, or 8 heaping teaspoons fresh chopped basil. Cover and allow it to steep for at least 2 hours. Once the mixture has cooled, strain and pour into two 16-oz spray bottles. It'll stay fresh in the fridge for about a week.
To prevent ticks from latching on and coming home with you, apply this spray every time you take your pet outside. Reapply several times if you're outdoors with your pet all day. You can even spray down your own socks and shoes if you're hiking on the trail. Just pack a little spray bottle in your ear, and you'll be good to go.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a natural compound found in the cannabis plant. It has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential health benefits. While research is still ongoing and some claims require further verification, here are some reasons why CBD is considered to be potentially beneficial for certain individuals:
1. Pain Management: CBD has been studied for its potential to alleviate pain. It interacts with the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating pain perception. Some people use CBD to manage chronic pain conditions such as arthritis or neuropathic pain.
2. Anxiety and Stress: Many users and some research suggest that CBD may help reduce anxiety and stress. It is believed to affect receptors in the brain that regulate mood and stress responses, potentially leading to a calming effect.
3. Sleep Improvement: CBD may aid in improving sleep quality. It could help individuals with insomnia by promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety, both of which can contribute to sleep difficulties.
4. Anti-Inflammatory Properties: CBD has shown anti-inflammatory properties in some studies. This makes it potentially useful for conditions where inflammation plays a role, such as arthritis or inflammatory bowel diseases.
5. Epilepsy: One of the most well-established uses of CBD is in the treatment of certain forms of epilepsy, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. The FDA has approved a CBD-based medication called Epidiolex for these conditions.
6. Neuroprotective Effects: Some research suggests that CBD might have neuroprotective properties, which means it could potentially be beneficial for conditions involving the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease.
7. Addiction and Substance Abuse: Preliminary studies indicate that CBD may help individuals struggling with substance abuse by modulating the brain's reward system and reducing drug-seeking behavior.
8. Skin Conditions: CBD is also being explored for its potential in treating various skin conditions, such as acne and psoriasis. Its anti-inflammatory and sebum-regulating properties could contribute to these benefits.
9. Antioxidant Properties: CBD's antioxidant properties may help protect cells from oxidative stress and damage, which could have implications for overall health and the aging process.
10. Minimal Psychoactive Effects: Unlike its cousin compound THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD does not produce the "high" associated with cannabis use. This makes it appealing for those seeking therapeutic benefits without the psychoactive effects.
It's important to note that while many people report positive experiences with CBD, individual responses can vary. Additionally, the research on CBD is still in its early stages, and more rigorous clinical trials are needed to fully understand its potential benefits, optimal dosages, and any potential long-term effects or interactions with medications.
If you're considering using CBD for its potential benefits, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medications. They can provide personalized guidance based on your health history and needs.

Continuing on.
3. Arizona
Est. total retirement spending: $1,117,884
Avg. cost of living: 3.7% less than avg.
Median monthly homeownership cost, pop. 65 & older: $419
Pop. 65 & older: 18%

With a warm climate in much of the state, Arizona is an attractive place for many Americans to spend their golden years. Additionally, the cost of a comfortable retirement in Arizona is closely in line with the national average. Accounting for both cost of living and average life expectancy, the average American retiring in Arizona is projected to spend $1,117,884 – only about $2,500 more than the typical U.S. retiree.

4. Arkansas
Est. total retirement spending: $875,611
Avg. cost of living: 15.3% less than avg.
Median monthly homeownership cost, pop. 65 & older: $348
Pop. 65 & older: 17.4%

Goods and services in Arkansas are about 15.3% less expensive than average. With a low cost of living, retirement is relatively affordable in the state. Accounting for average annual spending and cost of living, it would cost $875,611 to retire comfortably at age 65 in Arkansas, nearly a quarter of a million dollars less than the national average.

5. California
Est. total retirement spending: $1,391,547
Avg. cost of living: 16.4% more than avg.
Median monthly homeownership cost, pop. 65 & older: $588
Pop. 65 & older: 14.8% (6th lowest)

In California, goods and services are about 16.4% more expensive than average. With the second highest cost of living of any state, California is not a cheap place to retire. On average, a 65 year old will need about $1.4 million for a comfortable retirement, about $271,100 more than what the typical retiree nationwide will need and the second highest retirement cost of all states.

Lets take a look at an average cost to retire in the United States, State by State. I am not going to list every state in this one post, so over the weeks to come I will talk about them all.1
1. Alabama:
Estimated total retirement spending: $877.072
Average cost of living: 14.2% less than average
Median monthly homeownership cost, pop. 65 & older: $358
Population 65 & older: 17.4%

In Alabama, goods and services are about 14.2% cheaper than they are on average nationwide. Accounting for the state's low cost of living, retirement-age residents spend an average of $43,089 annually. Applying this amount to average life expectancy at 65 in Alabama, and accounting for additional unforeseeable expenses that can occur during retirement, it costs $877,072 to retire comfortably in Alabama, about $243,300 less than the average cost nationwide.

2. Alaska
Estimated total retirement spending: $1,159,339
Average cost of living: 5.1% more than average
Median monthly homeownership cost, pop 65 & older: $536
Population 65 & older: 12.4%

In Alaska, a comfortable retirement for the average resident will cost $1,159,339 – about $39,000 more than the national average. The state's higher than average projected retirement costs are partially due to the state's high cost of living. Goods and services are about 5% more expensive in Alaska than they are nationwide, on average.
in Alaska, for example, the typical monthly housing expenses of $536 among the 65 and older population without a mortgage, is more than in most other states.

I worked for years for other people, 52 years to be exact. I saved money for my retirement, but it was not enough. You don't expect bad things to happen. For example, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, quite a blow to someone who had never been really sick and had very few health issues upon retiring. Then while fighting breast cancer, they told me I had Type 2 Diabetes. Medical bills are expensive to say the least. I am in remission now and working on controlling the Diabetes.

First thing I wish I would have done in my 40’s is understand when to sign up for Social Security and Medicare. How much would I be paid at what age and how much would Medicare cost me. With Medicare you also need to have supplemental insurance.
I had no idea that you needed to sign up for Social Security and Medicare prior to your retiring and your regular insurance stops. If you do not do this, then you can be subject to a penalty that you have to pay for the rest of your life. If you do not sign up during the “General Enrollment Period” there is typically a life-long penalty that you will have to pay. Be sure to go to the Social Security site and check Medicare when to sign up.
A couple of good sights are: SSA.gov and medicaresolutions.com

There are a number of things that I wish I would have realized prior to my retiring. I wish I would have started seriously preparing to retire when I was in my 40's. I am going to talk about a number of those things on this page.
