Melody Meiners Author writer + strategic marketing I help people and businesses tell their stories because stories change people, and people change the world.

My work as a non-fiction writer-for-hire is driven by my natural curiosity about people, innovation, and organizations and an unnatural amount of caffeine. The majority of my work is ghostwriting or co-authoring non-fiction books ranging in length from 100-250 pages. My clients typically engage me at one of two points in their process; up-front for complete research and manuscript creation work, or for a developmental edit and consulting after they've completed their manuscript draft.

How has COVID-19 impacted your business's marketing messaging? I've worked with several clients to help adjust strategy, messaging, and public responses to the pandemic - crafting blog posts, newsletter items, and creating resident banner messaging. It's been a rewarding challenge so far.

After close to ten years making the soup on my own, I accepted an offer to start writing for MarketPlace, the Food Marketing Agency beginning January 8th.

I've loved working for myself, and it afforded me the opportunity to be with my kids while they were in my house All. The. Time. But when both kids started school full-time, I wondered what I wanted to do now that I was grown up.

When MarketPlace approached me, I thought it would be fun to meet them and see what other writers were doing. When I got there, I was wowed. I knew I wasn't going to start looking for any job, I wanted that job.

I will still be a writer. I will get to meet with food scientists and go full nerd; I will work with a team whose work has already blown me away; I will get to bury myself in research and turn it into stories. This is my wheelhouse, Y'all.

They even appreciated when I geeked out during the meeting over Neil Gaiman describing someone's writing as having "potato-chippy words."

I think I found a place.

The Princess & The Crone...
Fairy Tales are the first contact we have with social boundaries and expectations. They are the first memes and scholars say they have more power than even codified law. Through lecture, discussion, and readings we will deconstruct the structure, themes, symbols and social messages in our most beloved fairy tales both yesterday and today.
