is creative services agency; specializing in video production and interactive course development. Founded in 2008 by two individuals who had been doing this work (work that they love) for over 10 years when they decided it was time apply the methods they’d learned to helping others take advantage of the digital age. Since then, we’ve been growing our business while helping others grow theirs, and

have never looked back. Starting from the ground up, and learning from the ‘school of hard knocks’ has not only taught us what methods work best but, more importantly, which don’t.

ONLINE TRAINING PACKAGE ELEMENT #4: APPLY LEARNING ON THE JOB

The whole point of the training is for learners to perform on the job. Provide structure for the first few attempts that allows for immediate feedback and continued learning. This is another great opportunity for managers to implement one of their key job functions: develop their team members. Some managers even take it further by delegating review of on-the-job assignments to other senior team members as a way to develop their managerial skills.

ONLINE TRAINING PACKAGE ELEMENT #3: SUPPORT THEM ON THE JOB

We don’t want learners to have to go back to a video or even an exercise to remember something they need in the moment. Training in the flow of work is what it’s all about.

ONLINE TRAINING PACKAGE ELEMENT #2: LET THEM PRACTICE WHAT THEY LEARNED

A self-paced PRACTICE exercise lets participants apply their learning in a safe environment. It’s not an assessment. It extends the learning.

Self-paced learning means they can learn on their own time and schedule.

Managers can use the package in a variety of ways. For example, some managers use the exercise in a team meeting. They review the questions and discuss the answers in the context of their project; then they assign the On-the-Job Training.

ONLINE TRAINING PACKAGES ENGAGE THE LEARNER FROM BEGINNING TO ON-THE-JOB

◾️To kick off the learning, learners watch a short video to really CONNECT with the fundamentals and why they should care about the topic.
◾️Then they PRACTICE some of what they learn in the video with a self-paced exercise.
◾️Back on the job, they get SUPPORT with the topic.
◾️Finally, they APPLY the learning with an on-the-job assignment.

In addition to great learning for your employees, training packages also give managers who are responsible for employee development easy tools to facilitate that development.

TIP 5 TO BEING A ROCKSTAR LEARNER!

The learning experience has ended. Don’t just go right back to work. Ideally, put time on your calendar to reflect. More specifically, to really get the most out of it, do the following AFTER the Experience:
1. Review your notes and take ACTION, even if it’s just creating a reminder to take action tomorrow. Just don’t lose what you wanted to do.
2. CONNECT successes to the learning.
3. TEACH someone else what you learned.
4. Keep the learning going!
How do you keep the learning going after an experience? Would love for you to share in the comments.

TIP 4 TO BEING A ROCKSTAR LEARNER!

Remember the first tip? Don’t sit back and expect learning to happen. Here are a few ways to get the most out of the learning DURING the experience:
1. Put some active thought into it. How will you personally USE what you’re learning?
2. Plan how you will RETAIN the information. (Take notes, color code them by topic, and if you can, talk about the material with others in the class.)
3. Identify others you want to CONNECT with during and after the learning experience.

What do you do during the learning experience to help the learning stick? Please share your tips below.

TIP 3 TO BEING A ROCKSTAR LEARNER!

If you can help it, don’t rush into the learning experience. Take a few minutes BEFORE the learning to do this:
1. Write down what you want to get out of the learning experience. Remember your why.
2. Acknowledge any positive or negative feelings you are having about the learning.
3. Get PRESENT and FOCUS.

What’s your favorite tip for getting prepared for learning? I’d love to hear it in the comments.

TIP 2 TO BEING A ROCKSTAR LEARNER!

Connect with your “why”.

Get clear on your why. Write it down. Come back to it if you need a reminder. If you don’t know why you are engaging in the learning, why bother? Find the value!

What is your why for reading this post right now? Would love for you to share in the comments.

BE A ROCKSTAR LEARNER!

During this time, many of us are engaging in a new way of learning through e-learning and virtual meetings. Over the next several posts we are going to roll out tips to be a ROCKSTAR learner.

Tip 1: Participate in the journey. Be prepared to stay present and engage in the process. You have to own your learning experience.

Get at the pain point right away! Show learners the benefit your training has to offer and you’ll immediately connect with them on a deeper level.

Taking some cues from marketing when designing learning can change our approach to learning. It changes the simplistic “if the employee is taught how to do x, he/she will do x” approach to a more ambitious “if the employee is taught how x addresses a problem and alleviates pain points, and THEN how to do x, he/she will want to do x to receive the benefits.”

Let the introduction Hook ‘Em…

We spend a lot of time creating and reworking our elevator pitch. It’s often our first impression. We want to hook the audience so they stay and learn more about us. Whether we’re networking in person or creating an introduction on LinkedIn or other social media platform, we put our best foot forward in the “about me” section.

Your training introduction should do the same. If the opening resonates with you on more than an intellectual level, wouldn’t you be more interested in what you were about to learn? Get the learner connected to your content. If they start thinking “they’re reading my mind,” you’ve really got them interested and they’ll be more motivated to learn and use what you’re teaching.

As part of our scriptwriting process for training videos, we make sure the introduction grabs the learners attention, emotionally and intellectually, to get them wanting to learn more.
