“Can’t you just Photoshop that?”

Sure. Most times we can.
But the better question is… should we HAVE to?

One of the biggest misconceptions about hiring a professional media day photographer is the belief that everything can simply be “fixed in Photoshop.” The reality is that the best sports portraits and team photo day images start LONG before editing ever begins. They start with intentional lighting, composition, camera angles, posing, and paying attention to the background before the shutter is even pressed.

These side-by-side examples from our recent Suffield Little League media day show exactly why that matters.

The top image? Distracting people, players, chairs, and clutter in the background.
The bottom image? Clean. Focused. Professional. The athlete becomes the center of attention.

Yes… AI object removal tools are incredible. But they also add significant time to every image. On average, each portrait from a media day takes roughly 40 seconds to assess, crop, color correct, and edit properly. The moment heavy AI cleanup is required because backgrounds are packed with distractions, that editing time can DOUBLE.

Now imagine processing nearly 3,000 images from a single event.

That difference becomes HOURS and HOURS of additional post-production work.

As a media day photographer, my goal with FBR Media Group is always to get it right IN CAMERA first. That means:
• watching the background
• controlling light
• creating separation
• adjusting angles
• making quick decisions under pressure
• and creating images that feel polished before editing even begins

Of course, when working with youth sports and large-scale team photo day events, things don’t always go perfectly. Fields are busy. Parents are excited. Players are moving everywhere. Sometimes there’s chaos happening just outside the frame. That’s part of the challenge… and honestly part of the fun.
Gallery delivery is expected by Sunday, May 10.

But this post is a little behind-the-scenes reminder that strong photography is about more than clicking a button and “fixing it later.”

White backgrounds for that clean and polished vibe. But it takes a bit of work to get it as right as possible in camera. While shooting, you’ve got to be mindful of contrast, recognizing which parts of the backdrop need to replaced and edited in post process, and how to avoid getting appendages within those zones. Mindfulness during the session saves tons of time afterwards and makes post processing much more original and efficient.

Softball Media Day this morning with the girls! These ball players brought the energy and the perfect vibe for their portraits.

Always looking to be more efficient and effective, I changed up the setup this time—and this one is a game changer. No paper. No wrinkles. Just a clean, bright white backdrop that creates a bold, high-impact look while keeping editing to a minimum. Faster turnaround, cleaner images, and a more polished final product for every athlete.

That’s the evolution of what a Media Day should be.

So… what is a Media Day?

It’s not just photos. It’s an experience. It’s where athletes step in front of the camera and start to see themselves differently—more confident, more focused, more like the athlete they’ve been working to become.

As a CT Media Day Photographer and MA Media Day Photographer, I’m not here to just line players up and take a picture. I’m here to create something that feels like a production. Lighting. Angles. Energy. The kind of environment where athletes feed off each other and bring out their best.

And that’s exactly what happened this morning.

From the first pose to the last shot, the energy stayed high. Teammates hyping each other up, laughing between shots, then locking in for those intense, game-ready looks. Those in-between moments? That’s where the magic lives.

For coaches, this builds team culture.
For parents, it creates lasting memories.
For athletes, it builds confidence.

And for programs, it elevates your brand.

When you invest in a MA Sports Photographer or CT Media Day Photographer, you’re not just getting images—you’re creating content that can be used all season long. Social media. Banners. Senior night. Recruitment. It all starts here.

This new setup is just another step forward in delivering a better experience and a better product for every team I work with.
