Tacoma, and its people, have a way of surprising you. 🌧️

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, Riley Egge and Toya ✨ Victoria Fragoso showed up, set up under a tent, and made something real happen.

Riley opened with a busker’s ease, his DIY kick drum an old suitcase with a hinge and be**er attached. Joyful, unhurried, singing about love and stillness.

Toya closed it out with her ukulele and stunning vocal control that drew people in despite the rain.

People connected. Were vulnerable. Had fun. That’s Lunch Break Live.

Lunch Break Live is heading to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. 🌿

Toya ✨ Victoria Fragoso and Riley Egge are bringing their sounds to one of Tacoma’s most beloved corners of the city.

Toya is a Tacoma-born indie folk pop singer-songwriter whose music draws from classical piano, church choir harmonies, and her Mexican-American roots. She’s also the host of Tuesday with Toya, a podcast celebrating independent artists across the Pacific Northwest.

Riley writes what he calls “sun-baked indie folk,” friends around a campfire music, rooted in nature, storytelling, and the belief that music is a healing force in the world. He’s been writing songs since he got a guitar in his hands at age seven.

Two artists. One afternoon. Outside at Point Defiance. 🌲

Maple bars, fritters, french crullers, and an assortment of classics!

We had the pleasure of checking out Connie’s Donuts, and it was unassuming and full of personality. The kind of place that feels like it has been a neighborhood staple forever.

What stood out most was the donut itself. Slightly crispy golden crust, airy interior, buttery sweet glaze. You honestly might just find yourself planning your next trip before you’re even out the door.

6th Ave didn’t stop for Lunchbreak Live, but it did slow down.

On a sunny summer day in Tacoma, Kye Alfred Hillig and Jayden English took to the sidewalk outside Grann Restaurant.

Drivers craned their necks.
Commuters rolled down their windows.
Bystanders shouted words of encouragement.

Kye played originals with the kind of presence that makes two songs feel like not enough. Jayden, a 12-year-old Gibson-sponsored guitarist, followed it up by shredding Tool, Taking Back Sunday, and Crazy Train between sets.
