Dear Readers,
Welcome to www.rivercountrynews.com, the wave of the future! Please browse our online newspaper and send submissions to [email protected]. For those that do not know me, I worked at my parent’s local newspaper for over 30 years, leaving there in 2007. I have been a small business owner for over 30 years and I enjoy my family and pets, working, helping others and my community

and helping small businesses. I am thrilled to be able to bring this online newspaper to my community over 6 years ago; I have always said that ink was in my blood. The building that originally housed my parent’s newspaper, which moved to a new location in the late 70s. On Wednesday, June 3rd 2026 at approximately 1:06 PM, a KGSO deputy observed two males on foot acting suspicously in the shopping center in the area of Kings Hwy. and Inaugural Drive. The deputy observed the males wearing masks and walking behind the businesses where the emergency/rear entry doors were located.

The deputy spoke with the males and through investigation discovered one of the males provided a fake identification. Due to this, the deputy attempted to detain this male who resisted and began to fight the deputy. During the struggle, a firearm that the suspect had on his person fell to the ground and the deputy called for assistance.

Control of the suspect was obtained and he was placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed the firearm’s actual owner was attempting to report it as stolen. Due to the fact the suspect is 16 years old, we will not be releasing his name. The juvenile is facing several charges including Wearing Masks in Certain Places, Providing a False ID to Law Enforcement, Obstruction of Justice – Resist by Threat or Force, Assault on Law Enforcement, Firearm Possession by Someone Under 18 yo, Carrying a Concealed Weapon Illegally, and Receiving Stolen Firearm.

The suspect was taken before a Juvenile Intake Officer and remanded to the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.
