I recently walked into a restaurant and saw a sign at the entrance explaining tipping rules before anyone had even been seated. 😳🍽️
It listed how to calculate gratuity, suggested percentages, and what diners should keep in mind before ordering.

This feels like a big shift from the traditional idea of tipping — where you decide after your meal based on service, experience, and satisfaction.

To be clear, this isn’t about undervaluing restaurant staff. Servers deserve fair pay, steady income, and recognition for their work.

But when tipping instructions are presented before any service is given, it changes the experience. Instead of being a gesture of appreciation, it feels like a requirement before the meal begins.

Which raises a question:
When does a “suggested tip” stop being optional and start feeling mandatory?

Once customers see the expectation upfront, the meaning of tipping starts to shift.

Yesterday, I scheduled a grocery delivery expecting my order to arrive in a safe and timely manner. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened.

When I got home, I found all of my groceries sitting outside on the porch where they had apparently been left for close to three hours. Several items in the order were perishable, including milk, eggs, and other refrigerated products that should not be left unrefrigerated for that length of time.

Food safety isn’t optional. When customers pay extra for delivery services, it’s reasonable to expect groceries—especially temperature-sensitive items—to be handled responsibly and delivered in a way that helps keep them safe for consumption.

Because of the situation, I’ve already contacted Walmart to report the issue. Leaving groceries unattended for hours, particularly in warm conditions, falls well below the level of service customers should receive.

Now I’m stuck checking every item, trying to figure out what may still be safe to use and what will likely have to be thrown away.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with grocery delivery services?

😳 Are restaurants really expected to become the judges of what people smell like before they can sit down and eat?

I get the intention behind policies like this. Nobody wants a dining room filled with overpowering cigarette smoke, heavy perfume, body odor, or any other strong scent that could affect other guests.

But the part that feels uncomfortable to me is how subjective it all becomes.

What exactly qualifies as a "strong" odor?

There's no clear measurement—just someone's personal judgment. One employee might think a scent is overwhelming, while another might not notice it at all. The same person could be welcomed one day and turned away the next depending on who's working.

That's where the issue starts to get complicated.

A policy meant to improve the customer experience can quickly leave people feeling embarrassed, singled out, or unfairly treated. What one person considers excessive might seem completely normal to someone else.

I understand wanting to maintain a pleasant environment for diners. That makes sense.

But when access to service depends on something as subjective as how a person smells, it starts raising questions about consistency, fairness, and where the line should actually be drawn.

🤔 Am I the only one who thinks that's a pretty slippery slope?

Every week my neighbor drags the trash bins out the night before pickup, and for some reason, it annoys me way more than it should. 😅
Suddenly, our street transforms from “quiet and tidy” to “alleyway behind a diner” for the entire evening.
I know technically they’re not doing anything illegal… but part of living in a neighborhood is keeping it looking nice, right? 😬
