For the longest time, I tied my worth to what other people thought of me. I’d overanalyze every word I said, replay conversations in my head, and beat myself up if I thought someone didn’t approve of me. It was exhausting. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t be “enough” for everyone.
One day, I broke down and prayed, “God, why do I feel like I’ll never measure up?” His answer came softly but clearly: “Because you’re measuring yourself by the wrong standard.”
That hit me hard. I realized I’d been living for people’s approval instead of God’s truth. People’s opinions are unstable, shaped by their own fears, biases, and struggles. But God’s view of me? That’s unchanging. He calls me loved, chosen, and enough.
Now, I’m learning to let go of the need for constant validation. I’ve set boundaries. I’ve stopped letting others’ perceptions define me. And I’m focused on walking in who God says I am—because His opinion is the only one that matters.
“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I wouldn’t be Christ’s servant.” – Galatians 1:10
If you’ve been struggling with this too, you’re not alone. How do you remind yourself to focus on God’s truth instead of others’ opinions? Let’s talk about it below. 👇
