History education has become a sore spot in recent years, and many teachers are struggling to avoid controversy while providing civil and factual classroom discussion about the content. In the process, students are missing out on learning about people, places, artifacts and events that have shaped civilization.

Patrick Riccards of the Driving Force Institute is committed to making these “untold moments of history” accessible.

Education Talk Radio host Larry Jacobs and Driving Force Institute Founder and CEO Patrick Riccards had an eye-opening conversation about the challenges that so many history teachers are facing in classrooms across the country. Riccards also shared some insight about what his company is doing to hel...

Congratulations indeed! 🎉 The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) named Theresa Copple, a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Itinerant Teacher at Riverside County Office of Education, the 2024 National Special Education Teacher of the Year. Read about her here and scroll to the bottom to listen to her interview.

When Theresa Copple was in fifth grade, she had a friend whose parents were Deaf. See the signature on that dollar bill? It's Rosa Gumataotao “Rosie” Rios, the 43rd Treasurer of the United States. One of nine children born to Mexican immigrants, she's had an incredible life and career, and we were fortunate to have her on the podcast to talk about it.

I love how she noticed that depictions of women on federal documents and currency tended to be allegorical or symbolic, while images of men were portraits of real people — and I love how she worked to change that during her eight years in the Barack Obama administration.

I also love that she's helping to plan the "semiquincentennial" celebration of America's 250th birthday, America250, with toolkits for educators and interactive resources provided by Discovery Education.

I'm sure I speak for many when I say that I'd LOVE to see more teachers running for office. In a recent Education Talk Radio interview, National Board Certified special education teacher Lauren Jewett talked about what she learned on the campaign trail, why teachers make fantastic candidates, and why they should be running. I hope her words encourage other educators to get involved with local and state elections.

National board-certified special education teacher Lauren Jewett ran for her local school board in 2022 and the state school board in 2023. Those experiences brought to light some things that could help other educators running for office. She recently talked about it with Larry Jacobs on the Educati...
