Ok now, let's talk MARKETING funnels! Not to be confused with a SALES funnel (which is a vital part of your strategy!).

As you can see from the image above, your marketing funnel starts out WIDE, capturing potential leads attention through awareness objectives and filtering them down to the adcovacy level. While you are putting together your marketing strategy, this funnel should be TOP of mind for you!

What is the customer experience of your marketing efforts? Does your customer have a smooth and polished journey from the moment they become aware of your business, to how they actively learning more about your offerings and products, and what makes them want to convert and then convert again, eventually becoming an advocate of your brand?! A well-designed marketing funnel will help you with this!

Now, like I said, there is also a SALES funnel, which is a set of systems that get people to take a very sepcific action (i.e. the conversion level of your funnel). A sales funnel is a PART of your overall marketing funnel!

Now that you know WHY you should incorporate a marketing strategy into your business, let's dive into WHAT that means! ⚑

The ins and outs of a well-researched marketing strategy are a bit more complex than one post can get into, but at the bare minimum, I recommend including these 5 components into yours getting started.

1. What is your UVP? This is what makes YOUR business/brand special among others in your industry. What do YOU provide for your target audience that others/competitors don't? Why would someone want to work with you? What problems are you solving for your ideal customer? Once you've figured all of these questions out, wrap it all up in a pretty statement that is your Unique Value Proposition. Note: this should be special to YOUR business and offerings, hence UNIQUE!

2. How well do you know your target audience? Where are they spending time on or offline consuming their information? What makes them tick? Are you sure that women ages 25-40 are really your core target audience? Is there a growth audience you might be neglecting? Use the resources available (aka the interwebs) to really dive in and learn more about your people... then put that into your strategy and cater your marketing efforts towards reaching them.

3. This one might seem obvious, but it's SO important to make sure that your marketing is working TOWARD reaching your business goals. Write them all down, make them SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timebound), long term/short term, you name it! Then, jot down your marketing goals - what do you hope to get out of your marketing efforts? Brand awareness? Becoming a thought leader in your specific space? Direct sales from your website? These two types of goals should work together!

4. Content is the HOW to your marketing strategy. Develop your content pillars (3-5 topics specific to your business) and brainstorm ideas around them that will resonate and provide value for your audience (and reach your goals).

5. Last but not least, detail a timeline noting how you will implement all of your marketing efforts. Work backward from your goal dates and get to work!

πŸ€ͺ All jokes aside, if this is all you’re doing right now then GOOD FOR YOU!

Social media is for sure one of the first steps businesses take to market their products or services and build community. The fact that you are taking the little time you have as a small business owner to invest in creating content and sharing it online is a GREAT investment of time.

However, think of all the time you’d get back if you were strategically creating that content, adding value for your audience, and posting automatically to your accounts!

And, let’s take that a step further! What IF that social media content drove leads to your website, and encouraged them to join an email list that you can re-market to regularly.

AND, what IF that website was showing up in Google searches to leads that were ready to take action and purchase what you are selling??

THAT my friend, is implementing a FULL marketing strategy. Ensuring that all of the pieces of your business puzzle are fitting together and working FOR you!

I am not against using social media for your business (as a first step) AT ALL, heck Facebook & Instagram are one of the top places to build community and invest in paid advertising. I am just here to encourage you to plan strategically & limit the stress of your marketing efforts.

I hear from people a lot in the small business space that they just don't have the time or resources to manage multiple channels for their marketing efforts, or that they aren't sure if what they are spending their time developing and posting makes sense and is even reaching the right people. The list could go on and on!
