MARK YOUR CALENDARS—It's time for the 21st Annual Gardiner-influenced Profit Proven Sale!

The first Profit Proven sale held at Pratt Livestock Auction averaged $878 per head. The cash market for cows during that period averaged $794 per head and was down more than $8/cwt from 2001. Fast forward two decades and this sale clearly has created a brand identity for elite value-added females. The sale also establishes a high bar to measure documented genetic progress. From 2016 to 2022, the sale has returned more than $9.5 million to the consignors. Although the Profit Proven group changes from year to year and a few have participated for many years, the opportunity to build relationships and learn from one another is priceless.

This year's group has compiled an outstanding set of commercial females to be offered Monday, November 20, 2023, 12 Noon (Central time). If you'd like to join us in person, we'll be at the Henry and Nan Gardiner Marketing Center. Online viewing and bidding will be available through Superior Livestock / Superior Productions. The cattle will not be onsite sale day, but may be viewed by contacting the owners directly.

The 2022 Henry C. Gardiner Global Food Systems Lecture begins at 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 11, in McCain Auditorium at Kansas State University. Admission is free.

Beth Ford, the president and chief executive officer of Land O'Lakes Inc. and a staunch advocate for connecting consumers to the people who grow their food, will be part of a chat moderated by Tyne Morgan, host of "U.S. Farm Report."

Congratulations to all the entries in the 2022 NJAS Carcass Steer Contest!

42 steers were entered and harvested. 4 of the top 5 steers were sired by Select Sires bulls including 7AN580 HOME TOWN (2), 7AN388 NIAGARA, and 7AN392 MOMENTUM.

Top steer went to Ty Mogck, SD with his 1330 lb 7AN580 HOME TOWN steer. Ty also had the 5th overall carcass with another 7AN580 HOME TOWN. Congratulations Ty!

Top state group went to Kansas 5. All 3 steers were sired 7AN388 NIAGARA and out of 7AN389 SURE FIRE dams. Congratulations to Creed, Claire and Will Caldwell!

3rd overall steer went to Corbin Russell, KS and was sired by 7AN392 MOMENTUM out of a 7AN389 SURE FIRE x 7AN304 AMBUSH 28. Congratulations Corbin!

We have charted the harvest results on our home-raised and purchased GAR customer cattle sold through U.S. Premium Beef since 2017. The quality improvement year over year is exciting, but also predictable. Join us Friday evening, April 1, and watch Certified Angus Beef ® brand meat scientists Daniel and Diana Clark simultaneously break down two loins; a home-raised USDA Prime steer and a low Choice loin into cuts in demand throughout retail food service sectors. The Clark’s will document the value differences from harvest to the meat case. We will also provide complete data on the home-raised steer from birth to harvest. We’re Happy to Share a BJ Update!

Losing an entire calf crop due to circumstances totally beyond our control, forcing the cancellation of our Spring 2022 sale, was shocking and disheartening to say the least. However, we are extremely pleased to report the BJ Angus cowherd is stronger than ever before. Nearly 100% of the cows have calved. The calves are healthy, vigorous, and the most genetically elite ever raised at BJ.

Although our 2022 production sale has been cancelled, we are partnering with our friend and neighbor, Travis Sherfick and commercial producer, Brian Walt, in an online video only offering of 25 bulls and 25 bred commercial heifers.
