The other side of Trust lives on your website — and Google checks all of it.

🔒 SSL certificate — is your site secure? (https not http)
📱 Mobile friendliness — does it work on a phone?
⚡ Page speed — does it load in under 3 seconds?
🗂️ Schema markup — have you told Google exactly what kind of business you are?
🔗 No broken links — dead pages signal an abandoned site

These aren't optional extras. They're table stakes.

A slow, unsecured, mobile-unfriendly website tells Google you're not serious — even if everything else is perfect.

Authority is what others say about you. Trust is whether Google believes you'll deliver.

On the review side, Trust looks like this:
⭐ High average rating — but not suspiciously perfect
📅 A steady stream of recent reviews — not a burst from 2 years ago
💬 Detailed reviews that mention real experiences
🙋 Owner responses that are professional and specific — not copy-pasted
⚠️ How you handle negative reviews — ignoring them destroys Trust fast

One thing most businesses don't realize: Google can detect review patterns. A sudden flood of 5-star reviews from accounts with no history raises flags.
Slow and steady wins this one.

Beyond your own profiles, Google is watching what the rest of the internet says about you.

This is external Authority — and it's built by:
🔗 Other websites linking to yours — especially local or industry relevant ones
📰 Mentions of your business name in articles, blogs, or local press
📋 Listings in reputable directories — BBB, industry associations, local chambers
⭐ Review volume across multiple platforms — not just Google

Think of it like a reputation in a small town. The more people talking about you positively — the more Google trusts you're the real deal.

You can't fake this. You build it over time by doing good work and being visible.

Authority starts with one question Google is constantly asking:

"Does this business's information match everywhere we look?"

Your business name, address, and phone number need to be identical on every single platform — Google, Yelp, Facebook, Apple Maps, your website, every directory.

One letter different. One suite number missing. An old phone number still live somewhere.

Google sees inconsistency as a red flag — and it quietly tanks your ranking.
This is called NAP consistency — Name, Address, Phone — and it's one of the most overlooked local SEO fundamentals.

Your Google Business Profile is also a place to demonstrate Expertise — most businesses completely ignore this.

Here's where Expertise shows up on your GBP:
🗂️ Your primary category — is it the most specific option available?
📋 Your services section — are they all listed with real descriptions?
📝 Your business description — does it actually explain what you specialize in?
❓ The Q&A section — have you pre-loaded it with real questions and expert answers?

Most profiles have a vague description and a handful of services with no detail.
That's a missed opportunity every single day.

Google wants to know if you actually know what you're doing.

For local businesses, Expertise lives mostly on your website.

Here's what separates an expert website from a brochure:
📄 Dedicated service pages — not one page that lists everything
📝 Content that actually explains what you do and how
❓ FAQ sections that answer real questions your customers ask
📍 Location-specific pages if you serve multiple areas

A chiropractor with a page titled "Back Pain Treatment in Tucson" that actually explains the condition, the approach, and what to expect — that's Expertise.
A page that says "We treat back pain. Call us." — that's not.

The most powerful proof of Experience you can show Google?

Your customers talking about their real experience with you.

Reviews are Experience signals — and most businesses treat them as an afterthought.

Here's what Google is paying attention to:
⭐ Do you have reviews? How many?
📅 Are they recent — or did they all come in 3 years ago?
💬 Do reviewers mention specific services or details?
🙋 Do you respond to every review — including the bad ones?

Responding to reviews isn't just good customer service. It's a direct signal to Google that a real, engaged business owner is present.

Google wants proof that a real business actually operates at your location.

That sounds obvious. But most GBP profiles look completely abandoned.

Here's what Experience looks like to Google:
📸 Real photos of your space, team, and work — uploaded regularly
📝 GBP posts at least 2x per month showing active business
🕐 Accurate hours that actually match when you're open
📍 A verified address that matches everywhere else on the web

Google is essentially asking: "Is this place actually open and operating?"
If your profile can't answer that question, you're invisible.

Google doesn't rank local businesses randomly.
It's looking for 4 specific things — and most small businesses are missing all of them.

The framework is called E-E-A-T:
📍 Experience — proof that a real business operates here
📍 Expertise — proof that you know your craft
📍 Authority — proof that others recognize you
📍 Trust — proof that you're safe and legitimate

Over the next 8 posts I'm breaking down each one and what it actually means for your Google ranking.

Follow along if you want to understand why your competitor shows up on Google Maps and you don't.

Officially launched our first beta client on the AI Authority Builder this week.

The tool monitors Reddit in real time and alerts local businesses when potential customers are asking questions they could be answering, positioning them as the expert before anyone else shows up.

Early days, but really excited about where this is headed.
