One of the best things about portraits… capturing a variety of looks, styles, and expressions. Every person is unique. Every person goes through a gamut of life experiences and situations that mold them. The cool thing is finding ways to capture the various aspects of someone in a variety of ways.

I took this photograph around 6 am this morning…. There’s this weird thing that consistently happens when you’re working on film and photography projects. Right when you get ready to shoot, something happens that messes up the shot. I don’t know why it happens, but it happens regularly and it’s always so strange. Main Street was completely empty this morning. No cars in sight. And right when I went to take this photo a car drove up and parked right in my frame. The lady was nice enough to move for just a minute so I could get this shot while the light was right. But, still… strange. There needs to be a name for this strange phenomenon.

“I’m from Tupelo… it’s where Elvis was born.” That’s what I always say when I’m asked. Though… a lot of people know before I clarify why we are famous. I say it anyway if they try to stop me… because I’m proud of it….. it’s Elvis week, so, I thought I’d do a fun little thing here. Stylized them a little with some Elvis 70s tones. Hail to the king and long live rock and roll!

Yesterday we celebrated The Feast of Pentecost. Growing up in the church of Christ as I did, the Day of Pentecost was a big deal. If you're a Christian, it should be a big deal. I'm glad it was emphasized as much as it was. Being Orthodox now, it means even more to me. One of the reasons I am Orthodox is because I believe in the unbroken line that goes back from today to Pentecost. I believe in the faithfulness of God to preserve and sustain the Church. So, celebrating Pentecost, to me, means not only celebrating the start of the Church, it means celebrating the faithfulness of God in faithfully sustaining it for over 2,000 years.

Also, yesterday, I got to watch friends come into the Church. So, that was special as well. It was a good day.

Not Your Typical Senior Photos… that’s the name of a new thing I’m doing. It is how it sounds. Senior photos but… different. We talk about style. We come up with ideas. I shoot the photos then go get creative in the edit. If you’ve got a soon to be senior who’d be interested, hit me up.
