🌊🧤 Join us for the International Coastal Cleanup! 🌎💙

Tybee Island is joining hundreds of thousands of people around the world this weekend for the annual International Coastal Cleanup, sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy!

Come out to the Tybee Pier & Pavilion on Sunday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to noonish and help keep our waterways and coastline clean. 🌴

You’ll also have a chance to meet representatives from:
🐢 Tybee Island Marine Science Center
🌿 Manomet Conservation
💧 Savannah Riverkeeper
🌊 Surfrider Foundation Georgia
🌳 Wilderness Southeast

Learn more about their work, volunteer opportunities and ways you can help protect our coastal environment.

💧 A bottle refill station will be available, so please bring your reusable water bottle. We’ll also have a fruit snack for participants!

🎉 And there’s an extra special reason to join us: After 11 years, we’re getting very close to welcoming our 20,000th participant! That lucky person will receive an exciting prize package and plenty of social media attention! 👀🎁

Rain or shine! Unfortunately, parking passes will not be available for this event.

Join us up on the Tybee Pier & Pavilion for a celebration of the annual International Coastal Cleanup - Tybee Island, sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy. We’ll all be joining a global movement involving hundreds of thousands of people that will clean up their local waterways this weekend.

Visit with representatives from the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, Manomet Conservation, Savannah Riverkeeper, Surfrider Foundation Georgia, and Wilderness Southeast to learn about their missions and volunteer opportunities. We’ll have a bottle refill station (no plastic bottles please), and a fruit snack for all participants.

Another reason to attend: after 11 years, we’re very close to welcoming our 20,000 participant, likely during this event! If that lucky person is you, you’ll get a very exciting package of goodies and lots of social media attention!

Event starts at 10 AM on Sunday, Sept. 20 and wraps up noonish. Unfortunately we will not be offering parking passes for this event.

🎓 Congratulations, Assistant Chief Bertram Whitley III! 👏

The City of Tybee Island is proud to congratulate Assistant Chief Bertram Whitley III on graduating from the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Assistant Chief Whitley was among 265 law enforcement officers from across the United States and around the world who completed the 10 week program focused on advanced leadership, communication and fitness training.

The FBI National Academy is an internationally recognized program designed for experienced law enforcement professionals preparing for executive leadership roles. Since its founding in 1935, more than 57,000 law enforcement professionals have graduated from the program.

We are proud of Assistant Chief Whitley for this outstanding achievement and for the leadership, experience and dedication he brings to the Tybee Island Police Department and our community.

Assistant Chief Bertram Whitley III Graduates From the FBI National Academy

(Quantico, VA)- Two hundred and sixty-five law enforcement officers graduated from the FBI National Academy yesterday. The 299th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 44 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 28 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

FBI Director Kashyap P. Patel delivered remarks at the ceremony. Class spokesperson Darnel Robinson from the Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, D.C. represented the graduating officers.

FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all the National Academy courses offered.

A total of 57,461 graduates have completed the FBI National Academy since it began in 1935. The National Academy is held at the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, the same facility where the FBI trains its new special agents and intelligence analysts.
