What a perfect spring day, last Friday, May 25th for Kingsport’s Public Works Day celebration! Each year, this event shines a spotlight on the essential services that keep our city running—from sanitation and street maintenance to fleet services and stormwater management. It’s a chance for the community to connect with the men and women behind the scenes, and for kids to get up close with the big trucks and equipment that help keep Kingsport moving.

This year, what stood out most to me was the joy of watching grandparents share the experience with their grandkids—pointing out the vehicles, asking questions, and passing along their own sense of appreciation. It’s a small but powerful reminder of how Public Works connects generations and serves every corner of our city.

What a great Saturday in Kingsport!
The day kicked off at Domtar Park for Kingsport Parks and Rec Opening Day — celebrating T-Ball, Little League, Baseball, and Softball with hundreds of kids, parents, and grandparents. Even a little rain couldn't slow them down — the kids loved it — and by mid-morning, the sun broke through for a perfect day.

It was a real joy to capture the energy and excitement through event photography and drone work with Volume Labs. Moments like seeing the Miracle League kids running the bases and swinging for the fences made it all the more special.

Hard to believe this was the first true Opening Day celebration since COVID, but it felt like a fresh start. Big thanks to Mayor Paul Montgomery and the incredible team at Kingsport Parks and Recreation for everything they do to make this such a great place to call home.
