Mysterious Moai’s of the Rapa Nui Island.

Our guide Mr. Edmundo is an archeologist & has lived here on the island for 70 years! The Moai’s are the ancestors protecting the people of this Island.

Many interesting stories of Easter Island from Edmundo:
- Cannibalism and human Sacrifices prevailing in the pre-historic times.
- Light Skinned & chubby (he used the word ‘fat’) women where considered most beautiful on this island
- A bird man egg fetching ocean swim to get the bird egg without breaking competition winner was the chief for the next whole year.
- Guide was an advisor for the Movie ‘Rapa Nui’ by Kevin Costner.
- Island is like a Swiss cheese with many underground cave systems
-Two groups one was carvers, assistants and students in training. One group was in charge of moving the statues. The lady was a sorceress with magical powers. She saw one huge lobster, she requested the chief to keep large legs for her labor crew she came back next morning they didn’t keep it. She ordered all the the statues to stay in place and not move so since then they are standing never transported!
-The largest moai is 10 meters 41 cm about 31 feet tall in the Tongariki (south small)

He was part of the restoration of many sites. My son and husband really enjoyed his company and I enjoyed his stories.
