Can you edit film scans?

Weeeell. First of, it is a personal choice.
But, yes. Generally it is possible to do some editing 1) while scanning 2) after you get the scans from the lab using Lightroom/PhotoShop etc.
BUT! editing film scans is not the same you edit digitals. Swipe through to see exactly what’s possible.

As we are trying to shoo the summer away (it’s been enough!), let’s prepare ourselves for a season of gratitude, pumpkins, horror nights and less sunlight. Let’s switch to lower ISOs and we hope the images in this carousel inspire you to go out and shoot more.

Seasons change, but traveling is universal! Not all film is built for all light. Here’s what to pack before you go. Different light calls for different film. Before your next trip, think about the environments you’ll shoot and not just the destinations. This is what we’d pack.

That feeling of loading a fresh roll of film: the time stops, you open the package, the hands adjusting the first frame. And that feeling you realize you forgot to remove a dark slide, or a lens cap (again!🫣) Load up a roll of 120 and take your camera for a spin this weekend. Just drop your rolls off at the lab, pay online and get your scans the next day. And then do it all over again next weekend!

We are constantly amazed by you and happy to be an important link to help you bring your images to life. Our customer and great photographer Harris Khan was so kind to share his photos on Cinestill XX from the recent trip to Ghana and some words about his experience:

“Cinestill XX was a lucky circumstance choice. I didn’t have time to buy film before Ghana but a producer was flying in late so I was scanning for stocks to get to him in time and found this. I was very excited because it’s actually been used in so many amazing films over the years and taking it to the streets of Ghana, a timeless place, was the move. I love to match a film to a place, and gritty, high contrast B&W felt appropriate for Ghana.

All these frames were taken between chaotic moments during a run-and-gun docu/reality television shoot all over Accra, Ghana. They tell each other stories once they come back from the lab. My mind, body and soul are so dedicated to the show, I’m shooting 12+ hours a day, so I make a point to reserve a special tank of creative gas for my Pentax LX in the field. There’s no better feeling than that email with my photos ready once the wave of the shoot washes off and my mind is fresh. That’s when my personal work can speak to me.”
