'Aero-Biz' Marketing Newsletter Announced By Sun n' Fun, DeLand Showcase
Newsletter Created To Help Aviation Companies Be More Successful with Tradeshow Efforts
Every major aviation event has its share of successes and failure... but the reasons behind each are often illuminating and occasionally, confounding. For most of the complaints that have been heard about the lack of success behind an event or exhibition, a look at the efforts of those complaining often reveals problems with the approach taken by the company that is doing the griping.
Sometimes, the problems are significant.
Good communication, sales, and marketing are not rocket science... but they do require some discipline and knowledge from companies already overwhelmed by all the other things that they have to do to attend and exhibit at a tradeshow/exhibition. And in all the hassle of trying to stay competitive in the aviation world, sometimes the basics of marketing and communication, as well as good salesmanship, may be ignored or unlearned.
A number of years ago, Aero-News published the first in a lengthy series of articles that our Dr. David Juwel wrote, entitled "Does Your Aviation Business Suffer from ITBOA BNITBOB Disease?" ITBOA BNITBOB is an acronym for "In the Business of Aviation... But Not in the Business of Business."
He came up with this acronym to identify a common problem that he was seeing in the management of aviation businesses, namely, shortcomings he observed from folks when exhibiting at a fly-in. Over the years, he's chatted about well over a hundred such observations.
It's not enough to love aviation or be a passionate aviator… you also have to set your sights on how to learn/demonstrate good business practices, and set yourself up to succeed in meeting the flying public in order to earn their business.
You have to do more than show up… you have to show up prepared, ready to do business, and intellectually equipped to follow up on the potential business prospects you encounter… These simple attributes are often the very basis of the difference between having a good show and an unsuccessful one.
And, frankly, for nearly every complaint we've heard about the quality of a certain show, when we looked at the vendor doing the complaining, we found that the event, itself, was often far from the first on the blame list.
The Aero-Biz newsletter program is the result of some frank conversations between the folks who run the Deland Sport Aviation Showcase, the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In and the Aero-News Network's new 'AeroPReneuer' affiliate. The collaboration between the three of them has created the newsletter designed to take on this issue, at least once a month and take hard-fought and hard-won success concepts and share them with our respective communities.
“SUN ‘n FUN has been committed for over 45 years to connecting the aerospace industry with aviation consumers from all around the world so it is only fitting that we team with Aero-News and AeroPReneuer to help provide an additional venue for our exhibitors to improve their sales and grow their businesses. To this end, we look forward to sharing these monthly Aero-Biz Newsletters on how to better deliver a company’s message and increase sales,” notes John ‘ Lites’ Leenhouts, Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo President & CEO.
This year, we'll be chatting about working with the media, social media, using simple business cards and post cards to better effect, staff training, booth design/graphics and accessories, press kits, the pre-and post-exercises you need to plan for with every show, how to reach out to visitors to your booth, Basic 'Do's and Don'ts of Tradeshow Etiquette, Follow-up and Analysis, and much MUCH more.
“Designed from the ground up to be the center for the fun and lighter side of flying, the DeLand Sport Aviation Village and Showcase promotes and supports recreational flying, educates on the latest in sport aviation, and provides a venue to bring buyers and sellers together. We are delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Aero-News/ AeroPReneuer to deliver monthly messages to aviation exhibitors via Aero-Biz Newsletters. Bringing enhanced marketing skills – making each entity more successful – will strengthen and benefit the whole of the aviation community,” adds Jana Filip, Sport Aviation Administrator, DeLand Municipal Airport.
