The Alluring World of Olympia Oysters webstory is here! It was a huge honor to design the shimmering brand and website to tell the story of San Francisco Bay’s native oyster and efforts and experiments to restore the plentiful beds that once filtered water and provided habitat for plants and animals that live in the rich intertidal (or Estuarine) zones, including humans. 🦪🦀🐟🦆🌾🌊

Did you know that almost all big cities around the world have been built on estuaries - places where salt and fresh water meet? They are ideal habitat for diverse life forms including us. And they are incredibly threatened worldwide.

It was a privilege to be brought onto this project by and have the project be supported by and . The webstory was researched and written by and the website was brought to life by .vive

Why do branding for land and place-based projects? (Think land conservation orgs, ranches, conservation-based hospitality and development) I think I do it to “touch grass”. 🌾👈

I’m a country kid from the Sacramento Valley and Winters Foothilss of California. I grew up around apricot orchards, Putah Creek, dry grass and big gardens. But I’m just as much a City girl. I love culture and what people create togther, so I live downtown in NYC, one of the very densest nieghborhoods in America. 🍅👉🍎

Perhaps this sounds like a paradox, but for me it’s a way to stay nimble to new ideas and stay grounded all at once. I like to say that NYC is the Amazon Rainforest of people. I don’t believe that people are separate from nature, so, underneath it all, that’s the big idea I’m interested in exploring and the underlying cultural narrative that I’m looking to shift through my work with my clients, who are working with land. 🌞🎋🌳

Love letter to my hometown of Davis, CA 🍅 It was an absolute honor to be able to help the Davis Farmers Market .farmers.market adapt their beloved brand to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the market — one of the first farmers markets in the US 🍉

Davis Farmers Martial represents “50 Years of Gathering Community Around Local Food & Agriculture and Grounding the Next Generation in Agriculture, Food and Community through Davis Farm to School”

Working with the internal team, I created the 50th anniversary logo adaptation, integrated messaging about Davis Farm to School (which is a unique program of Davis Farmers Market), Redesigned website, messaging and fundraising campaign materials. Here’s to the next 💯 years of building community and a sustainable agricultural economy in Davis!

Something realized recently: When you have a big vision and big goals, there are going to be parts of yourself that are not with the program. They might be doubtful, fearful, ashamed or comfort-obsessed.

You can’t just steam-roll these parts or pretend they don’t exist because that will keep you from fully believing in your vision — after all, there are parts of you that don’t think it’s possible. Instead, you get to acknowledge these parts and work with them.

“I’m developing the courage to believe that I can realize my goal”

“I see you, scared, young part who doesn’t want to risk change. I’ve got you when things get rough. I’m bringing you with me”

Visionary work does not crush doubt, it invites it to the table and says, “I hear you and we’re doing this.”

Signage and interpretative graphics can communicate what’s happening in a given place that might not be obvious to the public. I created this brand for the Big River Kelp Recovery project in , CA with . Our strategy to communicate with the public via signage is unique for science projects. Researchers are monitoring the kelp beds they have planted underwater at the beach below. Now folks visiting the town of Mendocino walking the popular bluff above town have the chance to learn what’s happening with Bull kelp recovery below the surface of the water — they can find out more about this project using QR codes linking to info online.
