OK, you plant and tree and animal experts help me out on this one! This morning I noticed a pile of fresh oak leaves at the base of our big pin oak tree. I had just raked all of the green leaves that had fallen in the last few days, but now I woke up to this pile of leaves. The mystery deep end! They do not seem to be from the same tree! One is very obviously Pin oak leaf, but the other one looks to be more like a water oak. Why are they all in a pile like that at the base of my tree? My guess is that the squirrels are chewing off short pieces and using them to build nests. What say ye?

I did not see this little pop-up thunderstorm, moving into Magnolia from the south in the weather forecast for today. In fact, I consulted the forecast when getting off of my school bus this morning and opted for leaving the windows open to avoid the greenhouse effect! Oh well, kids love riding a wet bus!
