The term “let go” is a trip when you think about the meaning of each word. Let means “allow.” Go means “act” or “move.” So when we say “let go,” it means we need to allow action or movement to happen when holding on has us trapped by our thoughts. When you let go of something, you allow yourself to move forward in your life. Releasing the stuck feeling of being hyper-focused on what’s bothering you. Releasing the stuck energy that builds up when you keep trying to control something that can’t be controlled.

What do you need to let go of? A personal connection that’s not uplifting or affirming you? A past hurt that you’re tired of rehashing? A limiting belief about yourself that you picked up along the way? Identify something that’s keeping you from growing, and intentionally ALLOW it. Allow it to move freely through, and then out of, your consciousness. Let yourself MOVE—mentally, emotionally and even physically— to transcend what has you stuck. You can do anything next. But first you have to let go.

You are this day, this month, this year and all of history. You are infinite, yet you are growing. You are full of mystery and yet you function by perfect mathematical precision. You are miraculous. You are beauty and power that persisted through destruction. You are the universe.

Three years ago, a group of working unhoused mothers calling themselves Moms 4 Housing moved into a vacant, corporate-owned home in West Oakland and sparked a movement to unearth the true causes of our homelessness crisis. The award-winning NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit followed the mothers as they went from unhoused to activists and took matters into their own hands. "The Moms of Magnolia Street" documentary explores Oakland’s activist roots and controversial housing policies, focusing on the Moms’ fight against rising homelessness, inequality, and corporate housing speculation. Join the journalists and filmmakers responsible for this moving series for a discussion and screening of "The Moms of Magnolia Street" on Thursday, October 20th. Showtime starts at 7:00 PM with the New Parkway bar and kitchen available for food and drinks. The screening will feature a live Q&A with creators of the series, Investigative Producer Michael Bott, Digital Producer Sean Myers, Digital Video Specialist Evita Isleta, and Chief Photographer Mark Villareal. “Analog girl in a digital world” -

Emotions are a helluva drug…
and with all the information we have access to each day, tragedies and injustices affecting not just people we know but THE ENTIRE WORLD, sometimes they feel like an overdose.

Our minds and our emotions have been shaped through millennia of human experiences in the natural world, but now we find ourselves in a new reality. One driven more and more by digital consumption, influenced by algorithms and artificial intelligence. How do we adjust? Should we become more machine-like, trading our feelings for numbed logic? How can we choose to stay human when the very things that define our humanity, our consciousness and feelings, can sometimes make life seem unbearable?

Often our reaction to emotional pain is to ESCAPE. Drink it away, smoke it away, find a way to be numb…but what if we just feel it all? Breathe through the birth of a new world? A new self? Stretch and strengthen our emotional resolve like a weight lifter training to carry the weight of the world?

Next time your feelings are too much, notice them and breathe. Notice how they flow and move and shift with each moment. Sitting with the pain of others and strengthening our empathy allows us to connect to each other in a way that’s irreplaceable. Sitting with your own pain instead of avoiding it is the only way to grow from it. So don’t numb it. Feel it. Let your emotions keep you human.
