250 years ago, our founders declared all men are created equal: a radical idea that, in 1776, still left slavery legal and left women and non-property owners without a voice. That gap between the ideal and the reality didn’t close on its own. It took abolition, suffrage, civil rights, and generations of people who refused to let the promise stay unfinished.
